Sitting here watching the students of UofM fawning over Obama as he speaks on their campus, I'm wondering who Michigan will vote for.

***I'm hoping this "political" thread will be allowed to remain in the "Michigan" section, so please keep this on "Michigan" topics.***

Personally, I don't think Michigan has benefited from Obama. The benefit of the auto bailout/loans is debatable. I believe the automakers could have saved themselves if they really wanted, but that it was just too easy to ask the government for financial aid. I don't think he has done enough to help manufacturing, which Michigan is heavily dependent upon. I kind of like what I'm hearing from Santorum in this regard (no taxes on manufacturing industries).

I think Michigan is and will improve economically, but I give the credit to Snyder. Obama, Levin, Stabenaw, Dingell, Conyers, and all the other Democrats have not delivered in my opinion. Liberal, welfare state ideals have done more harm than good in Michigan. Our state has fallen behind for so long now. Our inner cities are looking as bad as ever. Along with the rest of America's heartland, we are being overlooked by our politicians who seem to cater to powerful self-interest lobbyists.

I don't know exactly yet who I am voting for, but I can tell you it will NOT be Democrat. Probably a Republican, but not "any" Republican... some of them are just as bad (if not worse) than a lot of the Dems. Don't get me wrong, there are some fine Democrats that represent us... just not the one they are trotting out for President. If he has stepped on so much of the Constitution while able to be re-elected, I shudder to think of the BS he will pull when that is not a factor.

Before I get flamed, if you have to ask what the numb-nuts in office has done, don't bother... you will just argue with whatever links and proof is offered and I am not getting into that.

Yeah, I worded that wrong. Should have said "Whoever the Republican nominee turns out to be."

I'm originally from Michigan.

Although I lean to the left, I'm voting for none of the above. Obama is just another neoliberal (economically) neoconservative (socially) who has continued Bush's policies of unrestrained war and curtailing our rights in the name of "liberty." Any of the Republicans would obviously be just as bad, if not worse. If I vote at all, I'm voting third party (probably Socialist Party or Green Party).

Barry Obama has a tremendous piece of ammo to use on MI voters: his stimulus package saved the auto industry. I don't see how anyone in the GOP can possibly compete with THAT.

I think people who don't understand how our government functions put too much emphasis on the office of the President and what he is actually able to do.

Remember, this is not a dictatorship. The legislative process still runs through both houses of Congress before even getting to the President.

Honestly, there's too much media BS in both directions because of ratings that is sharply dividing our nation, whereas we used to be mostly centrists.

I will say this, though, if this crop of (R)s is the best the republicans have to offer for 2012, Obama will soundly defeat them.

My guess is that the party has realistically written off 2012 and want to focus on 2016 when they can get their own 2-termer in office.

Kind of like the weak sauce the Dems put forth in '04 with John Kerry.

I'd take Palin over Newt Gingrich any day, at least Sarah Palin is hot. There's no way should could do worse than Obama either.
