I have lived in Southeastern Michigan for 25 years. I currently live in downtown Milford. I absolutely love Milford. The people are friendly and it has a cute little downtown area. Housing in downtown is inexpensive but there are mostly older homes. There are some new construction homes in the area that may fit your needs better but are a couple of miles away. Huron Valley School district is also a great school district. The crime rate in Milford is low and you are close to shopping and great dining. I moved from Livonia to Milford about two years ago and I love it here. I didn't like Livonia and I would never move back to Wayne County again. You should look into Oakland and Livingston Counties for homes, do not look into Wayne County. Property values in Wayne County are decreasing fast and Detroit city is in Wayne County. Hope this helps!!

You should check out Dexter, it has a great downtown and it is smaller then Ann Arbor. It is also only 10min. away. There is a great community called Thornton Farms which is a Centex Homes neighborhood that you should check out.

I wish the original poster would specify his profession so I can see where I went wrong. 5 years out of college making 85K/yr and 80K already saved so I'm assuming no other debt. How the heck does this happen? I could maybe see the salary in CA where housing is priced so high. The other question that comes to mind is why wasn't this position filled locally given the high unemployment here. Congrats to the OP I guess but I can't think of many jobs in MI where this can happen.

When I was 18 my Grandparents gave me luggage, and my mom gave me a ride to the Air Force Recruiter. You have nice parents.

No Problem, it always brings some laughs. But it is very close to the truth. I am glad "I was pushed out of the nest" so to speak.
