I started a business a while ago and try to buy all my supplies from Michigan. Some things I have to order out of state, but at least I make my products here and hope to grow bigger. Some things that **** me off, are when I buy quite a bit of things from one place they raise the prices and I have to go to another place to get supplies. i hate that!
Also, since I sell molds to make cement/plaster statues, I also can sell these molds to other people who in turn start their own little business selling statues. I actually just helped a few friends of mine by renting them some molds and now they are doing quite well making $300-$800 (and more) extra a month by going around doing shows selling statues. Now they are buying tons of supplies here in Michigan. I hope to help other people around our state do the same thing.

Bought a house, going to buy a couple of vehicles in a short while (after the holidays). Took 2 different $30/hour jobs that were vacant and nobody to fill them, so that involved moving back home to Michigan. YEA!!!!! Couldn't wait to get back here with better schools, better and more jobs, lower cost of living, and better attitude of the people around us.

My part in the helping the economy: I'm married, have kids who I'm raising to be workers and consumers. I spend lots of money, save some, and I don't take out loans that I can't pay back and I buy very few things on credit other than my house, cars, mostly using a debit card. If everyone were like me, you'd think it was the 1950's all over again!

Jen, you rock!

One simple thing anyone can do is BUY Michigan-made products. I turned my whole department onto Jiffy Mix -- made in Chelsea, MI -- by bringing in baked goods customized from their mixes.

Spend your money in Michgan-based businesses, large and small. This would mean anything from the last mom 'n' pop video outlet in your town to the mighty KMart Corporation. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...n<<There's a list of the bigger ones right here at Wikipedia, of all places. This link should also help the reader understand what's happening in Michigan industry. Stop putting off that trip to Pweabic Pottery or King's Bookostore, the DIA or the St. Ignace Mystery Spot. For crying out loud people, buy yourselves some Mackinac fudge online! Btter yet, drive up there in person!

I can't help wondering if a letter-writing campaign, or several of them, might not encourage CEOs in this state to light a fire under their keesters and branch out. What if Billy Ford got 10,000 letters saying that we want him, one of the richest and most powerful guys in the state if not the country, to finance more tourism for the state or start a rickshaw service for people trying to navigate downtown?

We live in Chicago and pay huge taxes on our "not a primary residence" in South Haven. We come up every chance we get - buy local produce and food, spend lots of money entertaining guests in restaurants along Red Arrow and Blue Star Highways.
I plan to do my Christmas shopping at the outlets near Holland and infuse as much $$ into the state as possible. I have been saying YES! to Michigan my entire life. All my very best thoughts.

MichiganMovesSouth is on a distinguished road
We just bought a house (ignore my screen name, we WERE going to move south but decided against it since we do have jobs here that we like)

We will soon be investing heavily into places like home depot as well
