Hello

We are looking for a house to buy, and I saw some houses very nice and very cheap in the Pontiac area....I've heard that Pontiac is a bad place, but what is the "limit" of that bad area? Pontiac downtown is to avoid, fine....But what about places around?
Thanks

That's in Detroit, so I believe there's a misunderstanding here.

Pontiac is actually safest around downtown (within the Woodward loop). I've also heard that Southwest Pontiac towards Bloomfield is the better part of the city.

What about the area on the west side where all the streets have Indian names (Iroquois St, Cheerokee St, Ottawa St, Navajo St, etc...)?

Yes, that be Indian Village between Huron Street and Voorheis Street. Telegraph to South Johnson Avenue. I believe south of M-59 is better.

And what about a place named "Walton Meadows" still in Pontiac (48340) but half-way between Pontiac and Waterford? Is it good (safe)? DO you know about the school district here?
Thanks

Zillow shows houses priced from $5k TO $115k. I haven't been through the area but it looks shaky based on prices. http://www.city-data.com/zips/48340.html shows it is 47% renters. As for schools, they are PONTIAC Schools..that about says it all.

Are you looking to live in the house or is it an investment / rental property? If you are looking to live in it, have you looked t Auburn Hills, Waterford, and other areas around Pontiac?
