How is petoskey doing
I used to live in petoskey, I have been watching the petoskey pointe project and it has stalled. I have been told that the pre sales did not work out and investor money dried up. How is building up there?
I used to work for dan daigastino at builders flooring. I hear that the flooring market is dead as is the building market up north in petoskey.
Any one up there know what is going on in the building market?
I used to work for UBC also or wickes before it was bought out by UBC. How are preston feather and ubc doing?
Thanks for any help in finding out what is going on back home.

petoskey
I dont know how petoskey is doing, but gaylord is not doing well.
I have been told by some people who lie that their business is doing "fantastic" this is total bull crap.
The construction business is not doing well. I talked to a ubs sales person in petoskey one of the few that did not lie, and he said that most of his sales are pole barns and the like.
Housing is not selling.
It does no one any good to lie about what is going on.
It is not like you can lie your way into a good sales record.

Petoskey is doing alright but as everywhere it has taken its hit. Western Concrete shut down and new home building is down, alot of contractors are hurting and I know of several laborers who have had to look for other work.

Western shut down many moon ago.
If you are talking about the one across from bayharbor.
Look at the pointe project. they lied and said the artical in the record eagle was wrong and steel would be going up by this time. I.E. late summer.
Now who was wrong? I just talked to a girl who works at 5/3 across the road and she said on saturday that there is maybe a couple of guys pushing dirt around.
2 years and only a hole in the ground. This is unraveling faster than the bush war.
Petoskey is not doing well at all, It may be doing a bit better than gaylord but not much.
the hospital is the only employer that has steady jobs.
The home market is almost nonexistant. I called a sales person I know at UBC and was told that most of the sales people are working on pole barns and the like.
Why build when you can buy for cents on the $

The pointe project is stalled, with no presales and no investor interest, it is DOA.
There is a big hole in the ground and a bit of dirt being pushed around and they call this construction. For two years this has been going on.
Talon group has just been disolved in michigan and is now under the first amercian flag. They have laied off many workers and now tried to run the company from its southern comand.
Just another sigh of how things are doing in the wolverine state.

I grew up in Petoskey and I just moved back up here (Indian River) after living in Ann Arbor/Plymouth for 10 years. Petoskey is doing ok, but there are no jobs. I know now after my wife and I have talked to multiple residents that many contractors have moved out of the area so they could get work. Same thing with teachers. I'm in IT and make about $15,000-20,000 less than I would in a similar position elsewhere. My wife is a teacher and while the market up here isn't as bad as it is in Southeast Michigan, it is still competitive to the point that school districts can pretty much treat the teachers how they want. We moved up here because our family is still here and we love the area, but if something doesn't come through for us soon, we will very likely have to move.
On the plus side, at least the hole makes it look like something is happening to people passing through. Also, the other home developments around don't seem to be getting much action.
Preston is still there, but I've got to imagine that Home Depot and Lowes are putting the hurt on them.

Nadmonk, finaly someone who is willing to tell the truth.
How is UBC doing, I called a person I used to know there, daryl kunde and he said things were bad but he is doing well, I worked with him for richard darnton const. for a few years, he always says things are fine. I can not imagin that ubc is doing well at all. Darryl went to work with another person who worked with us for darnton, and started a carpet install, company. now he works for ubc flooring, before I left donnih howe went across the street and started a store for himself, Donnies discont flooring.
I just can not believe things are going fine, I know to many in the area that had to move to NC,SC,MO or any number of other places to find work, I also saw before I left that preston shut down the old, hanky store, I think they still have the gaylord, harbor, and petoskey store still open.
just before I left I was told that preston laied off several people.
I talked to angie sevard Interiors and she said this summer was very very slow for her.
Any info would be much app. thanks

Everyone's ignoring the really positive development: Odawa Casino. It's created jobs directly and helped tourism immensely.

The casino is having trouble paying full time but will be more than fine when tourism season starts in May. Business rumors are around but pretty much everything is the same. On a sad note, I have a police scanner and there are more and more sirens everyday. 'Nuff said.
