I would look in DeWitt, just north of Lansing or Grand Ledge, just west of Lansing. Both have excellent schools and right now there are really great deals on homes in the $250,000 and up in both towns. Both are about a 15 minute drive. East Lansing and Okemos are closer but I think the home costs are a bit high and the school system is no better.

Okemos and East Lansing are great places to live, and they have great school systems too, IF you can afford to live there.

No offense, but there are great deals in the $250,000 and under as well.

Our house is for sale and we live in Holt, just minutes south of Lansing. It's very safe and our house is priced at $209,900 (1700 sq, 3bed/2bath/finished basement/newer build).
![]() Holt schools have a great rep and the high school is almost brand new and offers a lot. We also live within walking distance of Wilcox Elementary (great school, my daughter goes there). |
