I read the other day of an incident on the east coast where a guy on a street who always puts on a display had his stockpile blow up injuring 9 (including an infant). This person was apparently noted for always being careful, but I'll always detest this stuff that is sold to the public past just the old time sparklers and low level items that just pop a little. I say let the professionals work with the high power stuff, and I know by saying this I'm in the minority.

"Because they were legal to buy, I thought they were safe. Come to find out, kaboom, it was done,” Whitson said.

You thought they were safe? Safe explosives?

It ounds like his lawyers telling him what to say. You bought an explosive device. You knew there was a risk or you are a complete idiot. One of the two, I think the former is more likely.

It should had had a lable. "Warning this device my explode if flame is applied ot the fuse."

You thought they were safe? Safe explosives? agreed
I had a sparkler blow up on my hand several years ago, still have a scar. So yes, even legal fireworks pose a danger.
