North Bar Lake and its walk to Lake Michigan is a gem. Check the beaver-gnawed trees at its south end. I envy anyone who can make it there this year.

I had never hear of either lake. Thanks.

North Bar Lake looks amazing!

Gull Lake is unexpected, I really thought most/all of those kinds of lakes were in N/NW MI. And taking a quick peek at property values, it appears Gull Lake is not a secret to all. Dang, prices are high! I guess it makes sense with its proximity to Kzoo, Battle Creek, GR, much closer to Chicago, etc.

Gull Lake is OK. I'm not knocking it, and the houses on the island are pretty unique, but I don't know that I would ever put it in the same class as NW Michigan lakes. It reminds me of many of the lakes in Southern Michigan. It's highly priced because it's a wealthy suburban enclave for Battle Creek executives (Kellogg especially).

I tend to agree that Gull Lake is not in the same class as some of the NW lakes. It does appear to be much more pretty and blue looking than most southern MI lakes I have seen though. Not only is it high priced, it seems they have houses/cottages packed on there like sardines. That takes away from it a bit too, in my opinion. It looks like Diamond Lake, further south, is similar. Still, nice lakes for S MI.

I'm not sure why you posted this in reference to my post, but just because a lake is deep does not mean that it can not be shallow, especially around the edge where to an on-shore viewer, it takes on the characteristics of a shallow lake (i.e. "turquoise"). Torch Lake is shallow around its edges.

Add Higgins Lake to that, the two of them are very nice.

BoomRShine, Houghton Lake is actually the largest inland lake in Michigan, it's nowhere as deep as Torch, but larger by about 1,000 acres.
