That's kind of my mentality: may as well get in now since so many have left. I'll be moving back home to Madison Heights in mid- to late-April. I'll be living with folks while I get established, but I have a job I'll be bringing with me. After I save some money up, I can possibly by a home.

Pretending the state wide financial problem doesn't exist wont help anyone. Michigan more or less depends on Detroit for the majority of its jobs. I admit pretending all of Detroit is one big slum goes to far but we do need to address the issues we face together.

Well in many areas you can buy a house for CASH for what you'd pay as a down payment in other markets. The ability to have spending money and not be buried in a $400,000 mortgage is priceless. Or to not spend 2 - 3 hours a day in your car commuting to work, like you have to in other cities. That's what I love about Michigan, particularly in the Summer. You can get together with friends after work, be on a golf course or mountain biking trails or on a boat in about 20 minutes, and the sun doesn't set until after 9:00.

I talk to people who have moved here from other big cities, even California, and never dreamed they'd be able to afford living the lifestyle they live here.
