Is there any way to go to see the USS Independence? My father was on it around 1959, i would love to have him see it again.

Why are you asking in the Michigan forum? The USS Independence is sitting at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton, Washington.

Google is a better resource. Apparently there were several carriers named USS Independence. You probably want to make sure you find the right one before you take him there. One of them is at the bottom of the ocean. The other is likely tobe scrapped and/or sunk soon. The newest one is apparently still in use.

There is a naval museum in Charleston SC that is really a great resource on all modern naval history. They have a giftshop that sells hats, shirts and other memorablia from almost every naval vessel since WW2. I dont know if you can call them and mail order, or order online but it may be something your interested in if a trip to the west coast is not possible for you. Oh and dont let some of the sarcassam in here drive you out of the Michigan forum. There are alot of nice people in here, and alot of valuable info about this state is exchanged in this forum.
