My family needs a change (we're in NY and can't stand it).
Any thoughts on Harbor Beach? My husband is in sales and can work anywhere and I'd like to be near water and in a smallish town. I'd be homeschooling most likely but we'd like good schools around in case one of the kids wants to go in their later years.
I'm going to want to complete my Bachelors in Accounting (thought I'd do that at Davenport in Battle Axe) so proximity to a University that offers Accounting is a must.
Any suggestions appreciated.

How did you come up with Harbor Beach? Nearest college is about 60 miles away (Davenport offers satellite courses, usually at High Schools in some communities.) Harbor Beach is a very small town which will be a huge culture shock from NYC.

What are your main priorities you are looking for in a new location? Give a bit more detail and maybe we can narrow down a few places that would fit better.

I really fell in love with Haslett (just outside of East Lansing) when I went to visit MI. It is a small neighborhood that has an all sports lake and a wonderful community park. You would be about 5 minutes from East Lansing and the University there, as well as shopping and more variety restaurants--and about 15-20 minutes away from Lansing with even more things to do. Haslett struck me as very family friendly, affordable and a good blend of mom-and-pop as well as variety (nearby).

Default Harbor Beach?

I'm relocating their myself from Atlanta - but the responder about local college opportunities is right. If you're planning on doing an online study program - it will work - but otherwise??

I have friends with a farm in Harbor Beach and just returned from a long visit there. It is definitely culture shock - the nearest "big" store is in Bad Axe... Walmart. :-) For myself, I'm ready for the change - all of a sudden those top brand name hair and makeup products seem ridiculous. This is going to be a step back into sanity.

The people are FABULOUS. Coming from the south, this was real hospitality everywhere I went. People are friendly, obliging, and smiling of all things. Port Huron an hour away has all the stores one could want, Best Buy, Lowes, Home Depot, etc... close enough for me

Thumbs up Glad to Hear It!

I admit to a little concern as to whether I can adapt as well as I currently think... glad to hear someone else from Atlanta made the adjustment and is satisfied. I'm supposed to hear on a rental property today. I may be joining you in a few weeks as an Atlanta ex-patriate
