This is true.

The warmer winters of the past 10ish years didn't kill off the ticks with a long-freeze like we "usually" get.

That in turn means there are more ticks on the moose (not sure bout the elk, but I assume it's the same issue)...1,000s on a single animal in fact (sounds disgusting).

I'm not sure about the UP or the LP but I've been following this issue closely on Isle Royale in Lake Superior. It's a big deal up there where the moose and wolf populations are so closely studied.

If you've never been, ticks or no ticks, it's a fascinating part of mIchigan

snow? When will we get a big snow like my parents always talk about they used to have? If we are going to get it I want as much as possible. Cleaning up after the few "huge" snow falls we have had is fun to me, the forts and the snowball fights are also fun. I love how it can be silent at night.

But I also like the warm and I I'm torn on which I would rather have. Driving in the snow can be entertaining at times and also a challenge. Maybe I just like it because it's something different.

Not that I have any room to talk, but watching people from "no snow" states like Ca. can be very intertaining

That's funny that you bring that up tcb. It is kinda cool how the heavy snow muffles all the sounds of passing cars and other noises. Good call!

Without snow, Michigan would be naked in the winters. That wouldnt look so well with our climate, Michigan needs the white blanket...

The NWS forecasts the UP of Michigan to get over a foot of snow in the next couple of days.

We're supposed to get our first snow here in GR on Tuesday. I'm guessing it will be wet and won't even accumulate, since it will still be in the 40's and the ground is still "warm". Good thing I got the sprinklers blown out last Thursday.

That's one of my fondest memories of the snow. It gets so amazingly quiet when there's a thick blanket on the ground!

I love this and everything that the a good dumping of snow brings. I love living in Michigan because we get the opitamy of all four seasons. We have hot sunny summers with wonderful beaches, our springs are the most marvelous I have ever seen, our falls could compete with Vermont, and our winters (at least in West Michigan), give us some of the most snow in the country.
