I love snow! We had 50 mph winds yesterday, lost power for about 3 hours. Was about to turn the generator on cause it was getting cold in the house (34 degrees outside) but it came back on.
I love to snowshoe, x-country ski, sled, make snowmen, snow angels, snow ball fights....Michigan winters are the best! Cant wait for the Lake Effect Snow Machine to fire up! |

Laffed when I ready your comment. I live in Tennessee near Memphis and close to the Mississippi border. I lived in Michigan nearly all of my life and love it, but would not trade winters there for our mild winters here. I have a home near Petoskey and spend July, Aug, part of Sept there. Tennessee has 4 seasons, summers are sultry but bearable, unlike the complainers from further south in TX and AZ, but I dearly love Michigan summers in the north country.

We lived In Southern CA for 18 years. No Thanksgiving in a hot tub and Christmas day at the beach just did not "feel right" We planned to rent a cabin in the mountains but never got to it. It is good to be back in the cold for thanksgiving with 16 family members and Christmas with snow (hopefuly). That feels right. Of course by March it all just feels ick, but by then spring is just around the corner.

It is funny. Although I grew up here, after living in CA for 18 years we still do not drive as well in the snow as most Michiganders. The mistakes that we make are so dumb ist is funny as long as no one gets hurt (so far so good). Even after two years here we are not much better (in part becasue there has been so little snow.)

I added the bold to what I think is probably the biggest factor. I remember when I first started to drive my Father took me to a huge parking lot that was ice and snow covered and we switched places. I spent a couple of hours out there sliding and skidding into and out of every kind of situation you could think of. Next week-end; same place, same thing. When I got my license finally, I knew and so did my parents that I was at least minimally really for snow covered roads. Best thing to do is when you do get some snow, go out and practice in an area where there is no chance of hurting yourselves or others and practice/play in the snow and ice with your vehicle. |
