Well I got a job in south part of Auburn Hills.
I am looking for a good place to live; rent a 1 bedroom. What areas are good? Bloomfield, Birmingham, Troy, ROyal Oak? Or any other towns in between those areas. Is Auburn Hills good? Also any tips on what websites/newspaper to look. I just heard to avoid Pontiac and Southfield. Thanks! |

Bloomfield, Birmingham, Rochester/Rochester Hills, Royal Oak, Troy ... Sterling Heights is a possibility. Royal Oak and Birmingham would be 'inverse commutes,' although you need to remember that a lot of people in Metro Detroit commute from suburb to suburb, so commuting north in the morning does not guarantee a quick commute.
Apartment guides are all over the place if you visit SE Michigan. Yes, avoid Pontiac and Southfield. If you like a less urbanized setting, Clarkston is also an option. Auburn Hills itself has several options. I'm one of those people who hates commuting long distances to work, and AH has some OK condos (I don't know about apartments so much). Rochester/Rochester Hills apartments tend to be old. |

Auburn Hills itself has some nice newer apartments. If you are in the southern part of the city, places like Bloomfield Hills and Troy might be good choices for you. Check out apartmentguide.com and rent.com to see what they have.
I also work in Auburn Hills, but live in the Flint area, so I have a lengthy commute. I have looked at some places closer to Auburn Hills but ultimately decided to stay near Flint for the lower cost of living. |

We live in Utica due to hubby working in Auburn Hills. When we bought our house in 2000, the housing market was very different, so that was the only place we could find with houses for sale at the time. There are some cute new condos in Auburn Hills now close to M-59 and Squirrel Rd. areas

Also consider Lake Orion, which is very similar to Clarkston, and shares a border with to Auburn Hills. It's a beautiful, safe, newer upper-middle class suburb, but you could still find an affordable one bedroom apartment there.

When I worked in Auburn Hills I looked all over the place for cheap housing. Royal Oak is the only affordable place that I could find. I think it was less than a 20 minute drive and I really liked living in Royal Oak.

I have a condo for sale in Sterling Heights that is right off of M59. It's a fairly quick commute to Auburn Hills. It's very clean and well kept with new carpeting and paint.
Let me know if you have any interest. |

Driving M-59 (Highland Road) west of Pontiac irritates me when I want to GO. I wouldn't want to drive that every day as a commute.
Yeah, I'm one of those people that seeks to live near a major freeway. |
