People like you don't change anything. You're just here to report from the sidelines about what a lousy job everyone else is doing. But interestingly, after I've asked you to leave this site multiple times, and after you've been banned multiple times by multiple moderators, you still continue to come back. It's too bad you're not as passionate about the economy as you are on getting back on this site.

I see this as typical all-or-nothing thinking, Mag. Or maybe I should call it Chicken Little? The Big Three are circling the drain and in some people's minds, that means there is no job for anyone in Michigan, and never will be again, and we should all go eat worms and die. We do need badly to diversify, but we do have other concerns going on in this state. This state is the home base of a few other little-known companies like KMart, Dow Chemical, and Chelsea Mills that are surviving despite hard times. We have some of the best medical facilities in the country that are hiring like mad.
The poster you're addressing in the above quote has obviously never heard of the three levels of untruth: lies, damned lies and statistics. The numbers can and do lie.

Every point deserves a counterpoint. Unfortunately the repeated trolls believe that only their point deserves space in print. That's fine, we'll just keep banning and life will go on without them, as I'm sure it does in the non-cyber world.
In my opinion, that quote from Mark Twain gets overused. Kinda like bible quotations. Everything in the economy needs a measureable. And whether you like stats or not, there's no other way around it.
As far as the OP (which who pulled up this two year old thread anyway?), signs of hope are few and far between, but they're out there. Michigan still has a lot of manufacturing jobs to shed this year, so times will be tough all around. Time to go someplace warm to at least escape February weather.

We could just put the unemployed inside big hamster wheels hooked up to turbines and have THEM generate the nation's power. It would also help take care of the diabetes problem in MI, which is the worst in the nation. We could call it "cardio-wattage."

Wow. Someone not looking for handouts, complaining about the government (local/state/fed), "this stupid state (insert proper state here)". And *gasp* someone saying they will rebuild and start over again. Thank you for that very refreshing post. made me stop and read it a few times.

This is not just in Michigan where people are against coal plants. Coal plants, in general, have a very negative image for most people. This is partly because the older coal plants are much dirtier and are grandfathered into the system. A debate has been ongoing in my area as to whether or not to close an old coal plant and replace it with a far cleaner natural gas plant. Many states are currently investing in energy efficency upgrades, conservation, and altneratives such as wind.

One possible explanation for recent sales is that property owners might be coming to grips with having to lower the prices on their overpriced properties dramatically in order to sell them.
