Default Moving to Mt. Morris, Michigan

I was just wondering if there are any folks here from Mount Morris or any of the Genesee County Area & if they could share with me what the area is like, how are the schools, where is a great place to shop... basically anything. I'm so nervious about this move because I don't know the area.

The town of Mt. Morris itself is not a bad little area. Downtown still has a nice small town feel to it even though it is just north of Flint. Mt. Morris schools are small, but fine. Homes in the area are quite affordable. My Grandpa lives there now and has never had any problems. Stay away from Mt. Morris Township which contains Beecher schools - worst in the county from what I hear (their graduation rates are lower than even city of Flint schools).

If you can, download Google Earth and zoom in on the Genesee County area. You can select an option that shows the school district boundaries over the map. Since it's kinda confusing what parts of Mt. Morris are in the Beecher district, and what parts are the Mt. Morris district, that can be a helpful tool for you to map out where you would want to live based on school district.

Other nearby choices with bigger schools (that may have more educational resources) are Clio and Flushing. You'll be going there anyway to visit all of the big box stores.

Good luck!

Ah yes, Mt Morris, home of the youngest school shooting ever.

Mt Morris is a nice place all things considered, I think Clio would be a better choice if you have any control over where you move.

I live in Flint but I've been to Mount Morris many times. It feels like being in the country to me. There are many places to shop all over Genesee County. We have all the major food and clothing chains. Outlet malls not too far away and fast food everywhere. There are two large malls on both the east and west sides of Flint. For an area that is supposed to be in dire financial shape people in Genesee County love to shop. Also there is no shortage of churches in this County and church is a great way to meet new people. There are many churches and agencies that help those in need with shelter, food and clothing.
I wish I could tell you that Genesee County is a safe place but I can't. Good schools and the crime rate depend on where you live or if you can afford private schools or have the means to home school your kids. If you look you can find teachers here that run home schools out of their houses. Your children don't have to go to the public school in their neighborhood. We have schools of choice and as long as there is room for them you can take them to any public school you think is best. I did this for my son when he started school. The school down the street from me is bad. I knew he would get beat up all the time and not learn a thing. There was room for him at a better school not too far away and I drive him there everyday.
We are close to Detroit, Lansing and Grand Rapids and life here is what you make it. You can have a happy life here. Good luck to you and your family and welcome to our County.

Thumbs up Wrong about shooting!

The shooting was not in the city of Mt Morris, it was the Township and it happened in a Beecher elementary not Mt Morris. Get your facts straight.
I have lived in Mt Morris for 5 years and never had a problem. The police patrol the city constantly so that there aren't any problems.
