3) I would be willing to bet that per capita the lower peninsula pays out a higher rate in taxes as that is where most of the biggest companies and wealthiest people are based in our state.

4) The "No taxation without representation" rhetoric was always a fraud gimmick. England offered us, the colonies representation, and we turned it down and chose not to have representation. On top of it people living in the North American colonies paid less in taxes than people living in England, despite the fact that it was highly expensive to maintain British armies in North America to fight the French in the French and Indian War and protect the colonists from some tribal nations - all of which the colonists had previously wanted help with and got at much expense to the British government. All Britain wanted to do, was have the Americans pay a small fraction of the debt that the Americans ran up from military protection that they wanted.
So.... I guess you think the United States was the wrong move , that is what you are saying , is it not ? I for one, am glad that I am not a British subject. You will notice , that all the Commonwealth states at some point, got independence. The Brits , have had a hard time controlling anyone , their ambition was bigger than their brains, still is.

Heck no, I am proud to be an American and a Michigander, which is why I am against silly ideas of Michigan seceding from the US or the UP pulling out of Michigan.

You totally ignored my points against your claims for the Upper Peninsula pulling out of Michigan.

"No taxation without representation" was rhetoric without real meaning in 1776 used to inspire people without looking at things in reality. Factually the British offered us representation in Parliament - we turned it down. Factually Americans paid less taxes than people in England in 1776. Also, factually the Americans ran up a huge debt for the British government. You are using a slogan that was false rhetoric in 1776 to strike up some of what I thought was more false rhetoric for the UP leaving Michigan.

I pointed out a few reasons why I thought your logic for the UP pulling out of Michigan was misguided... Perhaps you could comment on those points instead of pretending like I am anti-American:

1) In the Michigan Legislature, the districts are carved out by population and in fact the upper peninsula gets slightly more represenation per capita than the lower peninsula.

2) Your same arguments for the upper peninsula getting taxed unfairly could be made for practically half of the lower peninsula counties.

To the guy who said the U.P. should become it's own state, well guess what, it will never happen, so get over it. If you don't like Michigan, then leave, it's that simple. So go back to watching the fudgepackers and brent favre's old ass, and keep pretending that Green Bay is Michigan's other city. GO LIONS, GO PISTONS, GO TIGERS, GO RED WINGS, GO WOLVERINES, AND GO SPARTANS!!!!
