I will get back to you on your points , soon. I am involved in a project now , and , don't have the time today. stay tuned.....
The break up of a state into 2 separate states has nothing to do with the interstate commerce clause or anything of that nature. It has to do with the Constitution itself. It has to do with Article 4 Section 3 of the Constitution. Both the State and National Legislature has to agree to a break up of any one state into separate states.

You said, "As to a serious attempt to break away from lower Michigan, well , that would be up to a majority of Yoopers to decide."

That is not true.

Then you brought up State's Rights Issues being on the election and a Puerto Rico Example. Article 4 Section 3 of the constitution isn't a States Rights Issue... It is cut and dry. The constitution gives the federal congress the right to prevent any state from splitting into 2 separate states. Puerto Rico voting not to pursue statehood has nothing to with a state breaking into 2, legally they are two different processes completely different from one another.

You seem to be missing my point. Something as serious as dividing a state has to start with the People. If the people , we the people , want to peruse such an endeavor, thats where it starts period. I would find it hard to believe that our Federal Government would , or could , without the will of the people, attempt such a move. Granted , the Constitution is the mechanics , the basics of our laws, but as we know , our Government does not always follow the Constatution , and , the will of the people is not always given. Laws can be changed, amendments can be made , but without the people within a state wanting such a change , the effort would be without meaning.
I to am a student of history. It has been said , that our Founding fathers didn't expect the Consultation , or the Republic to last this long, when they formed it. When the will of the people is ignored, for too long , the Government will fall.........I would be happy to discuss the Consultation, history, and how the UP could become the 51st state, I will find the time.....

It seems that this is your point now, but you made incorrect statements and illogical comparisons before it.

I sure hope our state doesn't break apart.
