Ooooo... I'm going to stick my foot in it and ask... who the heck do you suggest we vote for? Seems to me that all of my somewhat intelligent friends did NOT vote for our current lady govenor, and yet, amazingly she was put back in power. Just like Flint begging for change but electing the same nitwit who hasn't done much to improve their lousy crime rate. How about good ole Kwami in Detroit? We all beg for change, and yet year after year we seem to just repeat history. As I look at the current presidential hopefuls, I am filled with dread. Where is the punch mark for "None of the above"?

I'd hardly call the U.P. economy "thriving". With the exception of Marquette, Dickinson, and Menominee counties with 5-6% unemployment, most of the U.P. is the same boat as the rest of the state, with a few counties in the 9-13% range.

All the more reason to sell it all off......right ?........ my observations are of Marquette County, so , no doubt are slanted. However , the UP has always been, ( according to folks in Lansing ), a drain on the states economy, and tax base. Jobs up there are few and far between. The economy is a delicate balance..... I believe that both Michigans would benefit by succeeding towards independence of Superior from the lower part of Michigan.
Can you imagine the popularity the UP would get thru out the country , and the world , for that matter., the 51st state.WOW ! The federal aid, the awareness , that now is limited, mostly to those who have been there.....I do have an agenda here, case you haven't noticed.....it will become more clear,.later on.....

Everyone wants lower property taxes , its all about ME , however , thats not the real problem. the problem is income , for the people , and the state coffers. I am not sure if WI. would take the UP , Cheese heads are very cheap, even if it were free......they would think they were getting screwed......I will work on some numbers however. I propose , the UP , buy its self from the LP.....still working on how that would work. there maybe others that have some stats close at hand.....

True, yet I don't think insulting anyone, even the government (as much as they might deserve it :P) is really necessary.

Well. I will say that the argument against the government would be better and larger reaching on the Politics and other controversies forum. I'm sure you very well aware of the insults to all sort of public officials there. The only reason why I would say that this tread should not be moved to that tread, is because the original poster specifically mentions Michigan and no other state.
Granted I just looked at MSO total postings. There are only two on the same day and 30 min apart. Hmmmm.............Yac would you be thinking what I'm think about the OP?

Now you folks talk about the UP being sold off, If the State Governor would open up the Mines in the UP we could see some revenue from minning but oh Yeah! We can't do that cause we may screw up some wet lands or woods that the animals live in, God for bid we would want to give ourselfs pressidense over some poor animal to save our selfish Economy from going down any lower, Maybe if the Copper Mines were running at full capacity we could see some revenue from the sale of copper since it's gone up in price in leaps and bounds. But again another missed opportunity by the State Goverment, Boy I wonder why the Governor's supporters didn't see the money they could have made if the Governor would open the mines up. But instead, since she made a deal with her buddy to build a new State Police Head Quarters I guess they made out alright for themselfs after all.
Hey Yac you say everyone should calm down about the Goverment but don't these people work for the State Residents? So we don't have a right to vent what's wrong in the State Goverment and we are suppose to be POLITICALLY CORRECT is that it? Like I have posted on here about the E 85 Fuels that Michigan could be working on, yet everyone blows the idea off, or how the Governor wont let Wind Mills be erected in this State Cause some people don't like the look of big wind mills on open lands across Michigan . but we could ALL be saving in Electricity costs if they where able to build them here in Michigan, But again it falls on def ears . Like why hasn't there been a PAY CUT for State Representatives and State workers , Why is it every other working person in this State has to look at taking a Pay Cut and loosing their Benefits, yet these people in Lansing and who have State jobs with all the Benefits, but yet they don't have to even consider it. Cause they have the Residents of Michigan to pay their Bills for them , While the rest of us see HIGHER TAXES on everything we own or want to own, or consume. I am so sick of politicians who tell folks what they want to hear and don't have the Balls to do something that would stop this Good ole' Boyz BS! So intil WE the PEOPLE OUT these Bone Heads We don't have anyone to BLAME but OURSELFS.

And of all things in this country, we do reserve the right to complain. Although I agree complaining here is not the most effective forum.
