Michigan sold out (Republic: property taxes, jobs, sick)

Well the USA has been sold out. Our government who was elected to stop the war and focus on problems in country has done nothing to do what was promised. The old "we will fight them there or here" crap is getting old.
We have given our country away, we have our state of michigan which was one of if not the biggest center of manufacturing in the nation, we had the big three auto makers, not the big three are Honda,Toyota and Nissian.

During the war the willow run plant put out one liberator every 63 min. Now we are shutting down plants and sending the remaning jobs over seas.
We are a nation of consumers, and fat consumers at that.
Lincolin once said that a forgin power could not by force put a track on the blue ridge or take a drink from the ohio, but is our lot be destruction we are to be its author.
This seems true now more than ever. We are in another war that no one but those who like war in any form are sick of and do not want.

Michigan is in a state of depression, and it is getting worse.
Our state will continue to head for the bottom where ever that is ahead of the nation which is following although at a slower rate.

It is to late for Michigan to turn around now, nothing is being done and it would take a massive effort to start things in the right direction.
Soon we will need things like the old CCC work camps and the NRA [national recovery act] to kick start our economy.
Our dollar for the first time in memory is lower than the canadian dollar.
Our dollar is droping faster than madonnas panties.

All this at the same time our glorious leader gives aid to middle eastern nations, the Jewish nation. and any number of other countrys much to keep them from pulling support of the great patrotic war.

Glorious leader has also vetoed the Schip bill for uninsured children, it is to fiscially unresponsible he said. He asked for hundreds of billion for a war that costs 10 billion a week, the numbers are getting to the point that the zeros do not mean anything to the mind anymore.
But 7 billion for uninsured children is not a good way to spend money.
You have to laugh at that kind of thinking if you dont you will cry.
Mostly because you know we have another 12 14 months of this idiot.

This is a reflection on michigans economy, the debate of how it is doing is like the global warming debate, the people who argue that it does not exist are much like those who argue that Michigans economy is not that bad.
They say things like traffice is still there and people are buying Ice cream.
Those who say global warming is not true will used the same false logic to reason that it is not happning. It was cold today so there where is your global warming?

But it is getting to a point that the debate is mostly over and we just need to start a new effort to try to rebuild the problems we have created.We have created all our own problems in michigan, and the USA. Greed has played a major roll in this, and we are all a part big and small just like global warming.

From the Unions always wanting more $ for less work, to the auto industry wanting to build cars no one wants in hopes that there will be that xmas rush on hummers.
Elected officals pandering to lobbyists, Wall st. being given the green light to rape any one for anything as long as there is a proffit in it.
People like Ken Lay and Jeff Skelling stealing from the working class so he can give his wife a 1million dollar birthday party.
People like limbaugh that think we all should bow down at the alter of freemarket.
This another part of the problem we have created, this notion that the free market is the answer to all our problems, it has now went from a force that serves us to us that serves it, and many who want to make $ at what ever cost to a company or economy is the neuvo GOD we bow down to.
And look where this has all gotten us.

We need to take a step back and this time next year we all really need to think I mean really think about what is most important to the wellbeing of us as a whole, not a small issue, like gun control or abortion, but what is really best as a whole.

Ask yourself this question, are you better off now than you were in 98?
Do you think we should keep the [stay the course] mentality?

If the entire point to your insightful post is to encourage action via voting. Then I agree and support that point.

If you are otherwise presenting what is your opinion,....then I also recognize it and share the same opinion in a few areas.

In general, my view on this or any subject of issue is that it is incredibly easy to point out problems, but infinitely harder to point out solutions. I (and we) are most aware of our issues locally and nationally. Aside from 'voting' do you have any suggestions?

You state many facts, and many personal opinions as well. Interesting read. We shall see what the consensus is. Although you are probably aware, that by presenting your opinions in a "doom and gloom" post you will most likely be cherished by the harbingers of the four horseman, and dismissed as a pessimist by the optimists. I know I'll get flamed for saying this, but people need to make their desires known to their current elected officials. Government officials cannot keep their jobs if they do not do what the voters want. But most of the whining out there comes from people who never let them know, before or after the elections, what they want. call, write, or e-mail them and let them know where you think they are doing well and what you suggest they do to improve.

If everyone voted, the nation as a whole would get everything it wanted in under 10 years. As it is, most people sit around kvetching that nobody is makign it better.

Sell off the UP . Its nothing but a drag on our economy . Why are we sending and spending so much on a wasteland up north ?... When , the taxes could go to our down state communities that suffered the biggest loss
. What did the UP suffer ?.... They still have a thriving economy , home building is ongoing , jobs are left unfilled , and ,they , for the most part , have more in common with Wisconsin . Thats where the western Yoopers go to spend their money ........ yes , I say , sell the UP...any takers ?
