Adrian MI
Can anyone tell me about Adrian, MI? Nice place or not? There's a job there that fits me, but I don't know if I want to apply.

RE: Adrian, MI
Hi...I think Adrian is a very nice city - family oriented, lower crime rates, reasonable real estate costs plus it has numerous cultural and arts related activities...considering we have a small college, a small university and a community college bordering the town. It's also nice to be close to larger venues such as Toledo, Ann Arbor and Detroit without suffering the traffic backups and overcrowding. While I'm probably biased...I live in Adrian...I'm still glad I relocated from Ann Arbor many years ago! Here are two websites to check out: www.visitlenawee.com and www.downtownadrian.org. Hope this is helpful! Best of luck on your job search and relocation. LCCVB

Thank you for the info. I was beginning to worry that no-one would reply. The job is actually at the university in Adrian, so I was glad to hear you mention it . I'll check out the links you provided in a second--
Can you tell me what the economy is like in Adrian? Are there many new houses being built in or around the area? My spouse designs homes, and I'd hate for him to have to give up his livelihood if we move to Adrian (or somewhere else) for mine. Also, are people friendly--welcoming of newcomers? The sites are interesting, but they can't provide a personal perspective. Thanks again!

Snowlandcook, Did you make the move to Adrian?
I've lived in Adrian all my life (52 years). Hope you made the move. Uprooted my wife from Huntington Woods, MI and planted her here. She loves it and works for the Prioress of the Adrian Dominican Sisters who own the University you are asking about.

RE: Adrian, MI
Hi
Regarding growth/construction in the area - yes, there are new single family homes and condos being built, as well as lots of restoration and revitalization of our downtowns, going on in and around the Adrian area. Adrian is also convenient to many areas in the southeastern Michigan area that have building and growing going on. I wouldn't think building and/or designing careers would suffer tremendously here, however, that is NOT my area of expertise...for sure! I think Lenawee County is a very friendly and welcoming community. People work together well and newcomers are always amazed and pleased to find a most collaborative community, which you don't find everywhere! I hope that is helpful. Have a happy day! LCCVB

To answer your Q, no I haven't moved there yet, but I'm still thinking about it.
I've heard that Michigan's economy is horrible right now, which makes the prospect of moving there a bit scary. Is it as bad as it sounds?
Also--since the college is private (Christian), is the college community extremely conservative--or are they at least somewhat liberal?
Thanks!

Hey
I lived in Adrian for a while right across from Adrian College. I don't think the school is super conservative.

Adrian is a bad place to live period.... I was born and raised here and moved OUT 12 years ago. Crime, shootings and gangs. It is little downtown Detroit. Blighted areas and a whole lot of empty buildings and brownfields. Adrian used to be the pride of lenawee Co. but that was many years ago and growth is happening to the south in Madison Twp. Is see mentioned here interest in the local colleges. Let me say that Siena Hts. could dissapear and no one would miss it. Adrian College is not bad but much more conservative than Siena. Siena is a very liberal catholic college that is always protesting something down at the court house. Adrian used to be more conservative but over the years is now very liberal and Democratic in it's polotics. Traffic through town is bad, very bad, it takes sitting through four lights just to get on south main from Beecher St. Tecumseh which is a small town just north of Adrian is a much better town and the surrounding townships to it are rural and cleaner. We stay away from Adrian most of the time and hate to go there when we have to. Anything else you want to know just ask and will stop by and check once in a while.
