Well, not as good as FIRST, but little ol' Leland, on the West coast of Leelanau Cty, was voted 2nd best place to watch sunsets by readers of USA Today, beating Key West, Albuquerque and lots of other great spots

I actually think it belongs on that list. With the sand dunes and islands in the distance, turquoise water, overlooking Fishtown and the harbor... I haven't seen many views better than that in my lifetime. Haven't had the chance to see a sunset there, but I'm sure it's incredible.

Of course, the photo they used for the list doesn't show any of the great things that would make a Leland sunset beautiful. How about at least choosing a shot that shows the dunes, beach, or the islands? No, it just shows water. And there's no shortage of vantage points up there that can be used to get a shot that's 100 times better than the generic file photo they used. A quick Google search will bring up hundreds of better shots of Leland. Fairly typical lame effort for these types of lists.

a couple links to uncopyrighted images.....I used to be able to cut and paste these into CD, but that seems to have changed. I"ll try a couple from my own photo files.
Have things at cd changed, or is it me?

Hello strangers...I haven't been on here in quite some time.
Cosmiccrowbar... how RU ? We enjoyed Leland so much when we were there 2 years ago. My Husband LOVED the Deli/bakery across from UR shop. What was it's name ? He was wondering if they could ship him some of their products. That's how much he liked it.

We took your advice in Sept. this year... we came back to MI, only we drove up to Copper Harbor.
We LOVED Marquette. For Hubby's 60th BD I surprised him with a boat ride out on Lake Superior at Copper Harbor with Fred's Charters. Only Boat ride I could surprise him with. The other boat cruises stop Last day of Aug & Labor day. I went out on the boat...scared to death. Patch behind my ear & drugs so I wouldn't get sick. But I did it, for my Hubby. I must love the guy to go out on the water. He enjoyed himself. Water & wind was pretty rough that day. I survived it. Water is just so beautiful.

Just wanted to thank you again for your advice & knowledge on MI. It really made our trips there enjoyable. Thanks again for my blue Leland rock

They're nice in Leland, but the Manitou Islands get in the way of the view. I saw one in St. Joseph a few years ago that was very nice, as well as one in South Haven.
