Default moving to wyandotte- autistic child which school district

My husband is relocating to wyandotte. We have a 4yr old, 3 yr old and a 1 year old. my main concern is what school district has the best special education program our oldest has high functioning autism and needs additional assistance. If anyone has any information that would be great. I am most worried about schools first and then a decent area to live in with large green spaces. my husband does not want more then a 20 min commute to the henery ford wyandotte hospital

I am not sure where you are from but Wyandotte offers two schools with disabilites. There is Madison and Brighton Center. Madison offers special ed for various children that are deaf, speech, blind etc. My Aunt went to Brighton, she had Downs. I am ignorant to the needs of autism. I wanted to give you the names of the schools so you can judge what is best for your child's needs. I believe Madison is what you might be looking for. My sister n law worked at Madison as a physical therapy assistant. She worked with children with various disablities. It is a very caring school.

If your looking to buy a home in Wyandotte, it can be overwhelming due to how the city government runs things. I can you give info on surrounding areas, prices etc. No Im not a realtor but have done some investments and I know the area pretty well.

If you google wyandotte public schools, it will give you a list of the schools in the city. I hope this helps!

Grosse Ile has the best schools downriver, but I have heard that they are not too good with special needs children. Taylor has pretty bad schools, but I have heard that they have good special needs programs. However this is all just scuttlebutt. My wife is a substitute teacher and often works in Gibraltar including working with special needs children. They seem to have a decent program there from what she has said about it.

I know where to find information on the best school programs, but no idea where to learn about special needs programs. One thing that is clear, do not go any closer to Detroit than Wyandotte.

Wyandotte by the way is a really neat city. We considered living there very seriously, but we were not pleased with their schools.

I have a 12 year old boy with autism that goes to Wyandotte schools and I am not happy with there special needs programs. He has been with Wyandotte schools for two years now and I am now looking for a new school for next year because THE LINCOLN CENTER does not seem right to me . But it is hard to find a school that helps children with autism spectrum disorder there is not many choices in the Riverview and wyandotte area.....If anyone can help me with a good school please let me know .

I used to be the president of the special ed parents support group in Southgate; also worked in special ed. dept for Woodhaven schools. Unless the system has changed, several of the Downriver districts have 'mutal aid' regarding certain disabilities. I am pretty sure Southgate autistic students went to another district, although I cannot remember which one. I would suggest that if you are not receiving the services you need that you contact the parent advocate at the intermediate school district in Wayne to advise you.
