Unemployment
My primary job is ending as of 13/31 and I have heard differing reports as to what percentage of pay we receive from the unemployment office. I have heard anything from 40% to 80%, which seems high.
Anyone have a good idea what the actual percentage is?
I also am moving out of state and has anyone ever transferred their benefits from one state to another?

All I remember from 4 months ago that's when we left Michigan, is that my unemployment check was about $632 every 2 weeks and yes that is the max.
We didn't have any benefits left, we were running on no insurance for the last 3 months, it sucked, we are a family of 5 and I was scared.
Leaving was good for us, but we are still homesick.
Good luck and God bless.

good luck
Hi there,
I had only one (thank goodness) experience with unemployment, and I had moved from Louisiana to Oregon, and been laid off in Oregon. Because my income was split between 2 states, they had to wait for all of the paperwork to get there and clear from my old state. It was a major headache, and I honestly would have been on the streets if it hadn't have been for family and friends who lent me money. My unemployment check was delayed 6 weeks! By then I'd found a new job, but it still took a few weeks for that job to get payroll set up. It was a bad scene. I'd recomend calling the unemployement office in your new state and asking what they need from the old state, and getting that to brign with you when your register. Make sure you have some savings if possible.
Good luck!

Unemployment will not be a percentage of what you were actually making before. The only way your previous income has any effect on unemployment is to determine what percentage of the amount the state has decided to pay you will receive. The cap is around $600 every 2 weeks. Yes, that is correct, no matter what you were making before, the most you can make on unemployment is approx. $1200 a month.

Keep in mind that there are no extensions in Michigan, so you will be collecting for only 6 months.

We got $724 every 2 weeks also. If you dig around online long enough you can probably find the scale they use to determine the amount you get.

Thought I read somewhere that the formula used to calculate your weekly benefit pay used the best 3 consecutive months and divided by 26? So a person who made $2,000--$2,500--and $2600 in a quarter would have $7,100 divided by 26 to receive a weekly payment of approximately $273.
