From Wikipedia Ice Mountain entry:

Ice Mountain is a brand of bottled water from the Nestlé company, produced and marketed primarily in the Midwest region of the United States. Ice Mountain sources their water from two groundwater wells at Sanctuary Spring in Mecosta County, Michigan and/or Evart Spring in Evart, Michigan. The water is drawn from underground aquifers using wells and is not drawn from surface springs, rivers, or mountain run-off as the packaging would imply.
There is also a natural spring west of Bear Lake where people fill up. I saw a truck filling and loading large water cooler bottles, and wondered if it was some bottling company.

I bet it's more of a hot state climate thing. I've noticed in Texas seems like everybody drinks bottled water. Especially in the summertime. In Indiana, it didn't seem like they drank near as much bottled water as they do in Texas.

Anymore, I won't drink water out of the faucet. Water from the faucet is for showering and dishes and cleaning, washing the vehicles and watering the yard.

I have the drinking water delivered. I think it tastes cleaner and crisper than water from the faucet. And it makes the coffee, the sweet tea and the home made lemonade taste a whole lot better, too.

I hear the water in Texas is full of dust and oil and scorpion parts.

That's not true....everyone I know who lives in MI (including myself years ago) all drink bottled water. Just because you dont' see it in their hands doesn't mean they're not drinking it.

I know, I keep seeing the title of this thread and disagree. I think it's a demographic thing too. Our tap water tastes great (city of Grand Rapids water) but I still see a ton of people drinking bottled water. People in big GM SUV's.

A lot of companies though in this area, I've noticed, offer water to you in a glass instead of bottled water, to be more environmentally friendly. There was also a company started here called Boxed Water that is supposed to be more biodegradable than the plastic bottles.

That Ice Mountain plant mentioned earlier in Evart/Stanwood has been a HOT BUTTON issue in West Michigan because they draw so much water every year from the aquifer up in that area. "Taking Michigan water and shipping it to Texas."

Maybe other parts of the state people drink bottled water, but in Metro Detroit most people I have come into contact prefer tap water. I used to live in California and everyone purchased bottled water for the house and ordered it at the restaurant. Perhaps my experience is unique, but I have NEVER once in my life seen a person in a restaurant in the Metro Detroit area order bottled water except in some nice restaurant where they want sparkling water. Also, I do not know anyone from my family, relatives, friends, coworkers..etc who drink bottled water in the house. The only time I met someone who did was a recent transplant from Arizona who said it was out of habit.

I would suspect that they would serve bottled water at a conference along with other beverages. If you are referring to people in Ann Arbor, I know the city brings in a lot of young people from different states who are used to drinking bottled water. Imagine if you come from Florida or Arizona, states with disgusting water, and you have lived your whole life drinking bottled water, you would continue to do so even in Michigan.

Yep.....now if we drill a water well and the pump will produce more than 70 GPM it takes a special permit from the EPA.
