Hi, I will be relocating to St. Joseph, MI for work and I'm looking to live in or near a city/town that's diverse with things to do, decent nightlife (for a single guy on the other side of 25) and within a 30 mins or less commute (I am a little nervous about the winters). Any suggestions would be very much appreciated, thanks in advance for your assistance!

Close by, there is nothing for an adventurous single guy, however there is Lake Michigan and recreation. Kalamazoo is close enough, however both are lake-effect snow country in the winter, so you will have to navigate the major highways. Side roads can become impassable at times, and as we speak, they have just gotten hit along I-94. St. Joe is quiet to quieter, but things pick up in the summer tourist season.
These nightspots are in St. Joe and Benton Harbor. I linked you to Yelp for user reviews, but Kalamazoo has more.

To avoid crappy winter driving I would live in St. Joe and commute to Kalamazoo for nightlife when weather permits.
You can keep track of local weather, including lake effect snow squalls, here. By monitoring the weather map daily you will see what lake-effect is all about.
