Default Beaver Island & Fisherman's Island State Park

It's that time of year again. You can reserve campsites in Michigan state parks, six months, to the day, prior to your date. Yesterday, I reserved the last beach front site at Grand Haven State Park for the kite festival in May.

Now, time to plan the next camping trip.

I'm looking at Fisherman's Island State Park, just south of Charlevoix. I realize it's primitive camping, no electricity or showers, but they have two small camp areas, one north and one south, and since I've never been there, was wondering if anyone can give some insight. From that campground, I want to take the boat to Beaver Island, rent a truck and camp in one of the two township campgrounds there. Has anyone ever camped there?

Has anyone ever attended the Beaver Island music fest or air show?

Would it be worth our wild to camp on Beaver Island or just go for a day and use Fisherman's Island as a base camp, so to speak?

While I'm at it, west shore campers, if you haven't experience Ludington State Park, I can't say enough for how great that place is...and difficult to get into to...so start planning those reservations now.

Happy Camping!

You should try the Manitou Islands. Manitou Island Transit
For camping and wild I prefer them to Beaver Island.
