How long before they just decied to flush the frozen waste land?
Housing dropping like a rock, jobs flooding to other countrys, people moving out.
and snow moving in.

Housing is all good in the UP. The Marquette area apparently was one of the few areas that has had increasing housing prices lately in the state.

Construction is also doing well in the UP and as of the September jobless figures the entire UP's unemployment rate was 0.4% lower than the state as a whole. Yes, we got some snow over the weekend - about a foot. Nothing came to a standstill, people went to work on Monday, went shopping, just went about their business. The UP really should get back into the Superior State thinking mode - we would be a great 51st state.

"Flush the frozen waste land?" Why the hate for Michigan? It's a great state with good people. There are only two problems: Michigan needs better political leaders, and the state (especially the Detroit area) needs to figure out how to build an economy around something besides the auto industry. The first one is easy -- just vote in better people. The second one will take some work, but there's no reason it can't be done.
Why in the world would you want to give Michigan to Canada? What does that even mean? Is it supposed to be an insult?

I agree completely. I don't understand why people even start this. I can think of a half-dozen (or more) Northern Tier states that I'd give to Canada before I'd give Michigan away. It has too much else going for it (water for one thing).
And I don't know about that Superior talk either. Michigan has been Michigan for too long for that to ever happen successfully. Don't need another Toledo War now -- I've got family there.
Your two points are dead-on. I would only amend the first, though. We don't just have bad government now, we've got too much of it too. All the hoops you've got to jump through to get anything done, it's no wonder no one wants to bother anymore and just leaves for easier places.

Thanks for amending my point ... I agree totally.
