My husband and I are planning on moving to (in or around) Manastee county.
My husband lived there 50 years ago as a child and goes on for hours about those being the best years of his life. We have been working and living in the historic tourist area of Baltimore city and want out. We long for seclusion, wildlife, snow, water and old fashioned community. I am a singer, songwriter, entertainer and more profitably a semi retired RN with ER an CC experience. Any suggestions, resources that might aid us in our return to the woods. If you are a semi-retired RN with ER and CC training there is a hospital right in Manistee (West Shore Medical Center) that is a nice facility. My wife is also an ER- RN and was one of the supervisors there for a bit before we had to move. There is also a nice facility in Ludington (Memorial Medical Center) that has just recently (last 2 or 3 years) remodeled it's entire ER.

Thanks, can you tell me anything about Onekama and its surrounding areas?

IMO, you'll get that in the Onekama area. I don't live there, but I visit for the scenery, especially the water. Maybe someone else can comment on living there. |

Been a couple of years sense I was last in Onekama, last time up there I ran up to the marina because they had a part I needed for an old boat I was working on. Small town, maybe 700-800 people I would guess, real friendly at the marina, and gas Station (EZ-Mart if I remember right). Wish I could offer more help, but that's all I got
.One more thing, Portage Lake is a beautiful little lake that offers direct access to Lake Michigan as well. |
