Interesting fact, there is a graft in the article that shows 2011 as the point where the majority of Americans started to support Gay Marriage.
Good article and up-to-date too. I think that most people now realize that the issue is not just about lewd promiscuous vulgar sex, but the diehards still prefer to see it as such. They also prefer that marriage itself stand as a religious rather than legal institution.
We are living in historic times, since this issue has been closeted for centuries.

I applaud mlive for presenting the opposing voice, and even though I disagree with him, kudos also to Stenger for being reasonable. He's certainly entitled to his opinion and he wasn't hysterical or illogical. He believes what he believes and that ought to be respected also.

We are indeed living through a societal sea change, and it's difficult for many people to accept. That happens with every lurch forward, even when it's the right decision.

But notice he says we should "draw the line" at gay marriage, meaning he would gladly legislate against it and thinks we should. The rest of them believe they should have that "right" to deny based on their "beliefs" and nothing more.
Why don't they question their beliefs or try to rationalize them? They don't bother to do that and they go with their feelings as all the proof they need.

Case in point - I can tell you that the religious media is telling followers that when unsure about the right path to take, "gut feelings" are God speaking to them. I got this from TCT. This explains why they don't bother thinking an issue through - they don't trust conscious reasoning (it's difficult and unreliable) but they trust God in their heads instead.

Again, he doesn't even consider that nobody is forcing him to adopt the lifestyle, but he still is willing to to ban the marriage benefits for others.
There is no proof that gayness destroys societies, or that Hollywood liberals are "promoting" the lifestyle. These are easy-to-digest platitudes parroted from right-wing media. Like the others, he is equating "accepting" a sinful lifestyle to "promoting" it - an entirely emotional response.
