Jeez, I think we're headed into some of the best times Michigan has ever seen, more and more untethered from its old puritanical/self righteous ways and based more on just being good neighbors. Baby steps. Now we just need to throw this tyrannical governor out and flip the legislators at the State.
Supporting traditional values does not make a state "puritanical". Society must make rules and standards or we slip into an anything goes mentality. Do we want a society that resembles a hippie commune or the Woodstock festival of the 60s?? No way, we wont last long like that. The modern liberal movement however does want that, gay marriage and legal drugs, sounds a bit like things one may find in a hippie commune doesn't it? Society is better off following Gods plan for us, marriage between one man and one women. This is how families are raised proper, this is what holds us together. I have read that Michigan folks have begun to support gay marriage and other wacky left causes too like legal drugs. I guess its good I don't live there anymore because I would not want to live somewhere like that. Michigan did not used to be a place like that but somehow its values are changing, and not for the better in my opinion. Im sad to see the place I used to call home being ruined like that. I suppose those supporting the changes up there are glad to see me gone too, my voice no longer counts at Michigan voting booths.
Michigan got a little more blue when I packed up and left, and the south got just a bit more red.

God doesn't exist in law. Seeing that your entire position is based on "God's plan", your argument is irrelevant. Guess what? Gay marriage will eventually be legal in south too. Then where will you go? Uganda? The move away from Christian meddling is nothing but a positive step for the state.

The liberals will use courts to try and force it in the south as you say, but all it takes is one southern governor to stand up and defy the courts or nullify their ruling and this nation will have a huge constitutional crises on its hands. Using courts to push this is a violation of states rights, and the states have a right to stand up too it. We do have a 10th amendment, and yes it is still part of the bill of rights. Much to the dismay of liberals Appomattix did not end states rights in April 1865.

Wrong. States do not have the right to violate the Constitution. Once the Supreme Court rules that the ban is in violation of the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment (the writing is on the wall) it will be the law of the land. I think the UT case will be decided before the MI one though.
Let me ask you this...how will your life be negatively impacted when this happens? Will you really leave to go to a country ruled by dogma? I suspect you'll continue living your life as you do today, with zero negative impact. Just as those that claimed interracial marriage was going to be the end of the nation, you too will move onto meddling in peoples' lives on another front.
I also find it amusing that you keep mentioning liberals. You don't really think that wasting money to hinder the rights of others that impact no one but those involved is a conservative stance, do you? The advocation of government involvement in peoples' lives and the lack of fiscal responsibility involved in pursuing this fight is reprehensible and anything but conservative.

States have the right to secede from the union. All the liberal banter about the authority of the supreme court means nothing when this ultimate check against federal power is wielded against them. I don't think the people pushing this kind of thing understand the depth of the anger about federal overreach in many conservative states. Its not just this issue, its been building for years (abortion, gun laws, obamacare etc). People are sick of these activist courts forcing change on people who don't want it. Hundreds of thousands signed those secession petitions in many western and southern states following the election of 2012, so no I am not espousing crackpot ideas, but ones that many people have. A big supreme court ruling forcing this kind of change on bible belt states may be just the trigger issue needed to trigger a crises.

The south is going to secede if the Supreme Court upholds the Constitution?? This has been great, thanks for the laugh. I love seeing the "conservative" point of view.

I did not say any states will secede, but it could happen if the left keeps pushing. You keep laughing, but values are taken very seriously here, and sadly they used to be up there too. What you see as the supreme court upholding the constitution many others see as it being violated. Keep poking the giant and see what happens. Why can we not respect the constitution??? Each state has the right to decide for themselves an issue like this. Even though I personally oppose gay marriage, I completely support a states right to have gay marriage if it is voted in by its citizens or its state representatives, but I will never support federal courts or federal officials forcing it on a state against its will. That is a direct violation of the constitution. The only way for a large diverse nation like ours to remain united is to allow its different states and regions to have laws that reflect their values. To do otherwise allows anger and hatred to rip the nation apart. Oh and gay activism is NOT civil rights, homosexuality is a behavior that can be regulated by state law, so no it is not protected like the rights of ethnic groups are. The state authority should be supreme here, as the constitution prescribes. Violating the constitution as your side keeps trying to do could indeed lead to secession, and will you be laughing when that actually happens??? It happened once, it CAN happen again.
It's pretty simple if you understand anything about our Constitution and legal system. Having the majority decide on the rights of a minority goes directly against the Equal Protection clause. What you are proposing as Constitutional is in direct violation of the Constitution. You sir, are anything but a conservative

The WaPo article on the Conservative movement I linked to above said it best - supporting gay (human) rights is a smart political move, since public opinion both worldwide and in the US is increasingly supportive of allowing same-sex to marry.
The "religious right" (remember those old bumper stickers claiming the religious right was, actually, neither? ) and the Tea Party faction are, on a global scale, going the way of dinosaurs and supporters of apartheid.
And the South is going to secede over this, LOL give me a break. Keep on flying that Confederate flag.
How very sad what is going on in Michigan. First a court is trying to usurp the rights of a states right to make its own laws as the constitution prescribes. The people voted on the issue and put the law in place, if its to be changed then it should be the state that does it, not some federal judge. That is unacceptable. It is sad however that it does appear that the people there do approve of gay marriage (according to polls), something that IMO is completely against the bible, and contrary to centuries of tradition. It depresses me to see the state I grew up in do such a thing, and makes me feel even more distant from it, not just in miles but in values as well. I think I may be where I belong, in red state America. For those who are still living up there fighting the good fight, I feel for you but it may be a losing battle against the massive tide of immorality and secularism. Most of the Midwest has already fallen, Michigan held out longer than most in that region. Just 30 years ago no where in America would this even be considered, I fear for the future of our nation in general.
Sorry but the "Civil Rights" of Americans "Gay" or "Straight" black or white should never be "voted" upon!
