It could be that the heat keeps them inside more in CA. Heat makes you tired, cold does not. Cold does not seem to bother our kids at all.
|
That's exactly right. I lived in the Inland Empire too. SB, County.
You can keep warm in cold weather, but the Ca. heat along with the UV rays would pull all the energy out of you.
You wouldn't be any cooler if you were naked and under a Date Palm tree. The only way to keep cool is to be inside with A/C on high. Hot weather keeps you inside more than Cold weather.
Cold weather gives you an Option, you can either dress up warm and go out or you can stay inside and complain about it.

Just wait until you are away from Michigan for a couple of years. And see if your as negative. I grew up in the U.P. of Michigan and moved to the Atlanta area in '05. I myself enjoy living in Georgia, however it isnt all you think it is. The schools in GA rank near the bottom. Can you say the same for Mich schools?? Not from what I remember. Wait till you get to experience the summer time smog alerts the metro Atlanta area experiences. I pray you dont have asthma or respitory problems, because the air down here when its 90+ will be torture on you. My daughter has asthma and when that time of year approaches we have to keep her indoors because her asthma acts up so bad. Michigan might be cold as you know what, I myself didnt enjoy the super cold, but im not gonna sit here and bash it. I have many fond memories of winter up there. Michigan doesnt have these problems. Well I cant speak for the metro areas in lower MIch, as i dont have the first clue, but Im willin to bet their air is much cleaner and respitory problems dont run nearly as rampant as down here.
May you get a good dose of reality when you come down here buddy, I promise you will appreciate where you come from more than you really think you will.
And on another note, whoever mentioned the job market in Atlanta vs Michigan. LOL is what I say! It might seem like their are tons of jobs here, but what you dont realize is how many people live here. (5 MIL+) Competition is stiff and cutthroat. Wish you the best, hope you have several avenues at your use, cause its harder than it looks.
Atlanta isnt all bad, I do like it here, I just wanted to express that i once thought Michigan wasnt all that great once upon a time, and have been known to slam it in the past like I have witnessed here. Will I move back, probably not, however I now do appreciate where I came from and what that place really represents. It is all what you make of it. If you thrive on being negative, that is all it will be. May you have better luck seeking the positive from today forward.

Merry Christmas Michigan - Or Why It's Good to be Here
Merry Christmas Michigan as I'm up early making cheese cornbread crackers to go with the cheese spread and have some time while they are baking. I thought it might be fun to look at another state this morning, and I randomly picked Georgia. Gee, look's like people everywhere are upset and want to go elsewhere! Sure we have problems, but so does everyone else. Read parts of a happy Georgian post.
... oh, another reason why Atlanta makes me want to end it all.
Airports. Or should I say.... airport.
Another reason I want desperately to move back to Florida:
The fares from the Atlanta airport are just absurd. Let's face it, Atlanta is the only airport in the state. I'm sure there are some decently priced, short-haul flights from Savannah or Brunswick, but the lack of choice in airports makes me want to punch my own face in repeatedly for living here.
In Florida, there are so many choices of international airports with amazing deals. You could live in central Florida... find a super deal from Jax and never think twice whether the "commute" would be worth your while.
Add this to the list of reasons why the day I leave this place will be among the happiest in......

Very good point Ron, you can find every State and most of the Cities right here on this sight.
This guy will have a big surprise coming in Florida.

Yes -- there are pros and cons to every area -- some areas have excellent employment opportunities but horrible traffic or weather. Well -- with weather it's hard to say any is horrible because what one person likes, another person won't.
That's the good thing about these forums -- people looking to move can find various opinions on a place they are considering -- at least they can't say they weren't warned -- but they will here the positives as well as the negatives and can go from there.
Michigan has beautiful beaches, forests, the Great Lakes and some very nice small towns. It's a great place for tourists. And probably a great place for jobs in certain fields or for certain degrees. Not so great for certain jobs -- if having a job immediately is important -- or at least it seems like that. But then -- I wouldn't move some place where I didn't already have a job lined up.

Why is there not five million living in the up if it is so darn great? I will tell you why, it is cold and no one really wants to go. I app. where I came from and do not miss it a lick. it is cold for eight months out of the year. and can be another two. you either digging out in the winter or mucking through your dirve in the spring.
You are fixing what the harsh winter broke on you home, car, yourself ect or paying for the high gas,oil bill that it takes to heat your home when the temp hits -30, and dont even try to tell me it does not get that cold there, I lived there for 35 years.
In Florida or any of the other states that do not have the horrible winters things just work. You do not see pig tails hanging out of the radiators to heat the block in winter. You do not see people with artic boots in april or sept.
People can bike and jog in months that in michigan you are lucky to make it out your front door.
I remember where I came from do you?
I remember that jobs even in good times would be boom or bust. you either had too much work or not enough. There was a cycle that never would level out. I remember all to well.
I remember my school shutting down all the programs because of lack of funding, I remember having to go in and apply for food stamps because the construction industry fell flat. not now but in 79-89 I remember well. do you?

State Income Tax Mi 6% here 0
Health Care in Mi $48 per wk here 0
Auto State Farm Mi $ 109 per Mo. here $92
Home Owners Mi $ 695 per year here $ 587
Day Care in Mi $150 per wk here $120 and a better learning environment for a our son.
Wife Public School Teacher in Mi no jobs here hired on the spot $ 36,300 per year
and a $ 2500 signing bonus.

You get a property tax home stead ded. also. In mi you get a sharp stick in the eye.
Land development is at a stand still in most of MI. Look at the petoskey pointe project. just a big hole in the ground with all the developers telling you that you are a neg. nancy when you ask after 2 years when is it going to start? Money gone people gone, hope gone. Just say FLUSH IT YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

for those who laugh at those who point out all that is wrong with Michigan.
there are three steps to truth.
1] Ridicule
2] Violent Opposition
3]Acceptance
Give them time they know not what they say. poor boogers
