I'm a radiology tech. I make decent money. I'm single and I'm not a homeowner. I can live anywhere I want in not only the U.S., but the world if I so choose at the drop of a hat. Therefore, I have no reason to lie about being happy living here.

Sorry to douse your raging fire of discontent for our state, but this I must do. You hate Michigan, we get it.......and frankly the feeling is becoming quite mutual.

After living in the South, Northeast and elsewhere, I picked coming back to Michigan. My wife and I can live anyplace in the US we want and have jobs. After looking all over the Country, the best place for us and out kids was right here in West Michigan. No doubts here at all.

I guess I should have mentioned that a good portion of my life has been spent in the Detroit vicinity, where half of my family and friends reside. These are actually the majority of the people I was referring to in my last post.

Keep your apologies. You had a bad experience here and because of that you've chosen to label an entire region as a wasteland chock full of degenerates in a public forum.

I lived in Texas and hated it, but I don't go out of my way to degrade the state of Texas and its people because I didn't enjoy my time there.

Truthfully, it sounds to me as if you think someone here did you wrong, and that your posts may be acting as an avenue for you to purge your conscience.

Whatever it is, you're pretty pi$$ed about something that went down here. Judging by the language and legitimacy of your posts, I think it's a safe bet that we could be reading the same things in the Virginia forums under your moniker a few years from now.

For being so uneducated, at least the majority of us know how to use punctuation and capitalization properly. As a whole the people are not uneducated in those regions. So you talk to people who live in other areas and probably never have been to the State who are glad they don't live here... well, that is proof positive the place must suck . Kind of like asking a blind person if they like the color of your car, and taking that as gospel truth. Why would they have an opinion one way or the other? And why in a business conversation does this come up. Do you really have such a hatred for a place you only spent 7 years that you toss it out into every conversation? Must be a blast to hang around .

I like how you mention things that are subjective, and then throw in the word "FACT".

The phrase "don't feed the trolls" comes to mind with this guy.

redshift299 is on a distinguished road
you people are tripping me out. albeit, i did come into a blog that is dominated by "michiganders". maybe take a look at the title of this forum....... "another reason michigan sucks and why i am moving"

Remember, I am not speaking about something that I have never experienced. You say that 7 years is not enough? Would you stay at a job for 7 years and say that you did not know whether or not it was terrible? Also, I was not speaking about subjective things YOOPER. It is a fact that the vast majority of people I have talked to who are from Michigan are glad of just that....... they are FROM Michigan. Go to the US government's census site. I hate to tell you what, but Michigan is the second highest in the US for unemployment, 38th for college educations, 6th highest for suicide, 3rd highest for teen pregnancy, and 3rd highest for murder. Now if that is subjective then Granholm is the best thing since sliced bread.

I will post the site up here so you can see. Too many of you are getting incredibly upset and not checking out statistics.

You are correct in that I have suffered because of Michigan. I have a Father-in-law who lost his job after 25 years with kelloggs. He was fired with no notice. My Brother-in-law lost his job with Pfizer after 15 years. He was also given 4 traffic tickets because the officer had a "quota" he had to meet for the month. You folks want to attack me personally, even after I have apoloqized, so lets get personal. My brother was also shot in a quiet suburb by a drug dealer because he was thought to be a cop. This happened in a town of less than 8 thousand people. I lost my job and could not find one for 2 years. I have a masters in Mechanical Engineering. What else, let's see........ Every other store that I noticed while driving from Detroit to Battle Creek, less than a month ago, was going out of business. Old Navy went out of business in Battle Creek's only mall for goodness sake.

I don't need to justify this to you people. I have tried to apologize for grouping you all into one bunch. I won't mention anything else about how nice the people of Michigan are......... you have already driven that point home

good riddance to your dying state

Thanks for confirming what I suspected with that rambling post. Your issues are purely personal and you think Michigan is to blame for all your family's woes. The percentage of those misfortunes does not tilt toward the state of Michigan being at fault for everything, sir. Regardless, I take it that your "good riddance" quip means we won't be hearing from you anymore in this forum, which means we poor, disheveled, uneducated folks here in Michigan had at least one shred of good news today.

I am glad that you have found peace in a different place, where hopefully the memories are not so tragic. You are lucky that you have the choice to do that, redshift.

I do not think that your posts are way off. If you are generally speaking.

I lived in MI over 40 years. My family and 3 of my 4 children are there. I have been in NV for over 4 months and will be heading back to MI in January-a little reluctantly as my husband will be staying here in NV. His field of work is basically dry in MI, unfortunately, at least for now. We have a house in MI that we do not wish to sell as we would lose money. I have been in that house for 5 yrs. The neighborhood is awesome as well as the people who live there. True, that most are not highly educated, but they work hard for what they have and they are honest law abiding humans that would do anything for you at a moment's notice.

It is no secret that I have no undying loyalty or love for MI. It is a beautiful state and I do have many memories, good, bad and otherwise. The change of seasons is awesome, but they do not pay the bills. I am not a fan of the cold weather. Don't mind snow too much, just hate the icy, gray, freezing weather.

I did not think the people in MI were any different than anywhere else because I never lived anywhere else. I now know that they are. They are much more friendly here in NV. It is so noticeable that it actually made me feel a little uncomfortable at first. I don't think it is because of MI bad economy because it is not better here economically. In fact, NV is being hit hard. But, you just don't get the nastiness that you do in MI. Everyone here goes out of their way to help you, they smile, and they work hard at pleasing you. In MI, I cringed if I had to ask for help in a store. Or a restaurant. (generally speaking-not everyone, but very noticeable)

I think I chalk it up to all the gray days that MI has. More gray than sun. Opposite here.

Maybe up north is different, I lived there for about 3 months, on a small dead end road. Only met one neighbor, the rest didn't wish to communicate. So much for small town friendliness.

Michigan has a long way to go towards cleaning up it's state-government. Hopefully, it will turn around. It does have some good points and there are many people who are loyal to the state and love it.

Geez...your are very hateful, and yes this is a forum for people to express their opinions about why Michigan sucks. BUT...when you attack the "people" did all these people do something to you? NO. I'm sorry that your family has suffered the losses, its tough everywhere not just in Michigan. I'm not in Michigan YET. But i will be moving there in a week and a half.
It's not just Michigan that is suffering. I live in Missouri right now, and its not any better. I am originally from Pa. and people are losing their jobs there too. And im sure if you look, Virginia people are losing as well. And if not, then thats wonderful. As for the millionaires that you speak of...They hide behind money, and DEBT. So dont think that they are any better off than the average person.
This is all just my opinion.

rep points for you!

I also work in the health field and could work anywhere... but choose to remain in the midwest. I love the 4 seasons... and yes, I even love winter now.

I am in metro detroit but dying to come up to your neck of the woods for a little R-R. I have a cabin in Mancy and I beg my DH weekly to please lets go up and do some snowmobiling. I hear it has been the best start of the season in almost a decade!
