My Grandfather use to own Caberfea ski resort in the 50's-60's..........now known as Caberfea Peaks Caberfae Peaks Ski & Golf Resort - Michigans Number 1 Ski Value! Cadillac, Michigan : : Golf, Skiing, Snowboarding, Northern Michigan Lodging, Snowmobiling
Back then it was only 2-3 log "warm-up" cabins, a small cafeteria, and some rope lifts.

Lets not put ALL of Michigan under the "sucks" department. Life here in Superior land , is , quite different. Its not always paradise , but , is defensibly worthy of the title , compared to life under the bridge these days.

They are doing the best they can to enjoy their lives either where they are happiest or where they have to be. Crappy things can happen anywhere. Apparently, this is what happened in your case.
Thing is, obviously by moving it did not alleviate your anger. If it did, you would care less about any other place.

The title of this thread is "another reason michigan sucks and why i am moving". Should I not be here slamming Michigan? Michigan, and the people of Michigan, have caused me nothing but heartache. I try not to bunch the entire state, or rather the entire population of the state, together. However, we are a pluralistic society, and I am a product of it. If the majority of a people have treated me poorly, I tend to generalize. This seems the perfect medium to voice my opinions.
Maybe a self realization is in order for the good people of the state. Maybe until this realization materializes, there will be no progress. So many people are here shooting me down and not one has done any research. People just want to sit back and say, "wow, look at the pretty trees". All the while, with their eyes closed to the rest of the world.
If there is anyone who reads this who wants me to provide unbiased evidence, just ask. Or if you don't want to ask me for proof, just come on here and rip on me. I will provide it to you then as well.

If you feel that those things about the "people of Michigan and Michigan" itself, then I would think you might be happy not to have anything to do with MI and let it go. But that would be too easy, huh?
Then again, those people who caused you pain were not "people of Michigan", they were just people, period. Did MI birth them? Or did they just end up there like anyone else may have from anywhere else. That is just a silly statement. Now moving away from bad memories-okay.
As far as the self-realization goes, maybe if you have such a strong opinion and knowledge of the "system" and what is wrong with it, you should have stayed and fought for a better Michigan instead of running from it. That would then be self-realization.

Having lived all over North America , including Michigan , 4 times during my lifetime , I can say it is a cruel mistress. In the early years , those transfers to Dearborn , Ypsilanti , and Detroit , were quite cruel.
I knew no one , people were hard to get to know , every thing seemed cold , including the people. I was happy to be transfered to Illinois , seemed somehow like home , even though it was not....... I made my home in Chicago and burbs , and has some great memories.
Later in life , a return to Michigan seemed exciting , this time I chose the western shore .........and , I grew to dislike it just as much as before. What a mistake I had made , and , this time by choice , and , I should have known better.........its hard to believe for some , but your experiences can , and , should color your thoughts about where you live. Its nature telling you , to move on , you are in the wrong Forrest.
Getting out , this last time , I found the UP again after 30 years of absence. Those vacations up there when I lived in Illinois , were highlights behind compare, for anyplace in the Midwest........ So , I moved to the UP , and , now feel free , free at last , from the Michigan , I knew , and disliked. The people are much more connected to Illinois , and Wisconsin , that , making friends was easy. All the rest is attainable from the Tourist who visit , and the Dept. of Natural Resources, ......of Michigan, of all places.

Here's a report for everyone to stew over, in case they just don't get enough negative news already:
The Associated Press: Economy bad all over _ even before current crisis
The Census Bureau has come out with a report saying that basically the entire country has been in a recession since 2000. That all the economic gains over the last 8 years have been artificially inflated. How bout them apples.
Now whose buying the first round!
