I saw this about 3 days ago on WDIV Channel 4 News or The Today Show, can't remember, I think Channel 4 News, so look on there website or just do a key work search on the net. These rankings were just released. I know West Virginia, Utah, and South Dakota made the list too.

Here is the link-Click all States Rating to view the list.

I need more sunshine, life is too short.

To each it's own! I'm surprised some people responded so imature to this thread. I think they could use more warm weather and sunshine too, Obviously someone is depressed, lol! Oh and Mi was just voted one of the most DEPRESSING STATES!!

It is a lot of "to each his own" --- for those who start sweating and panting when the temperature hits 70 degrees, going south won't be the answer. For those who don't really enjoy the cold, or prefer summer sports to winter sports, then staying in the north isn't the answer for them.

Economics too -- if someone has the extra money to spend on heating or cooling then the extreme climates are fine. Myself, I prefer to live in sunshine and heat only to take the edge off a cold night and have a low utility bill and just drive a couple hours up to see the snow when I please.

Michigan is a beautiful state though. A crystal night with snow falling, the way a walk through a woods when 3 feets of snow has just fallen, the beaches in the summer. It's very nice.

With a bad economy though -- staying warm could get costly and if that's all you're left with -- maybe it's time to move where the weather doesn't take such a chunk.

Well, the thing is most people don't necessarily choose Michigan to live in -- they're born here. They can then choose to leave family, friends, etc later in life and move somewhere else but most don't want to make this sacrifice and move to the unknown even though they may not like all aspects of Michigan.

In my opinion, there's a lot to dislike in MI at the moment and there are better alternatives for a lot of people. To be balanced though, Michigan probably doesn't have the problems of a lot of other regions either.

Sparrow, you are so right. 20 months ago I had to drag the family out to the East coast away from The West side of Michigan, due to family matters out here. (Parents moved out here 20 years ago, and they were having difficulties health wise.) You have no idea how well off you have it back there. REALLY, I'm not blowing smoke, and never would have believed it myself 2 years ago. The cost of living here is out of this world high, and the wages are very, very low. Today I made 2 phone calls back home, and have 2 rock solid job offers. Moving expenses, $12-$15 per hour MORE than here, lower utilities, lower healthcare costs, better schools for the kids, better benefit packages at either place. I tried a couple of years elsewhere (Maine) and am so happy to be headed back home. Right now there is plenty of houses on the market, which sucks for those who have to move away, but it is good for us.
So while this isn't really a Michigan sucks post, it is about moving. Yea, back home to the West Side where I belong.

Yes that title screams out mature to me.

I was living in D.C. metro area (think Rockville in the area) about 2 years ago this time of year. And I have to wholeheartedly on both points. I would have found it funny that people didn't know how to drive in snow except for the fact I was in sheer terror of getting killed my some of the maniacs on the road. But what was funny was that they would shut don't the whole government if they got 3 inches or snow that didn't even stick. At least that's what happen when I was there. One other thing D.C. Metro area from June thru July is a humid nightmare. I remember running on a high school track a 8pm on time and it was like running in my home state of MA. at noon time. It was tough to say the least.
You nailed it, my friend. The summers are unbearable. It's like being in a tropical jungle.

Yeah, everybody overreacts out here. If there's even a FORECAST for any amount of accumulation, the government and all the schools shut down. The drivers out here are insane on the best days. Put the threat of snow in their heads, and you take your life into your own hands out on the roads ...

I was talking to a friend of mine back in Chicago when we got our snowfall out here in DC. She said Chicago got about 6 inches and the city was beautiful. I told her that we got maybe an inch, and the plows and salt trucks were all lined up on the shoulders of the Beltway as soon as the first flakes started to fall. Her comment: "Aw, how cute." Priceless!

Man, we can't wait to get outa here ...

Now, see, that's the thing about cold vs. hot. When it's cold, you can always add more layers. But when it's hot and sticky and miserable -- which it is in DC every summer -- there's only so much you can take off without getting arrested.

You took the words right out of my mouth.

I reported Miss Princesse to the mods but apparently no one cares about us in Michigan anymore. We'll have to fend off the trolls ourselves.

Yes, Princesses, someone bringing some levity to a whiny thread is a troll, yet someone who joins in the pity party is not? Riiiggghhhhttttt.

I no longer live in Michigan, but I still browse through the Michigan forum from time to time to see what's going on. After seeing too many of these types of threads, I have to ask, what is the point of these types of threads?!? To the OP, you don't live in Michigan any longer, move on and stop bashing the folks that do. Many of us have decided to leave the state, however many more decided to stay. You had your reasons for leaving and they have their reasons for staying. Now stop trying to stir up trouble by starting these ridiculous threads.
