The Michigan winters are tempered by the lakes. Yes , that means snow , but , not the extreme cold they have in MN., IL., WI., and IA. Not a bad mix I would say, and , northern Mi. has less humidity, with a little more cold , so , all in all its a trade off, like every other place......... I remember Hot lanta, in the summertime....... you don't want to even go outside its so dam hot and humid. Nevermind , now , they have no water ! Water bills in Atlanta are more than electric !

Found it, had to go back and look, I missed the link first time around. The ranking go from lowest to highest rates of depression and suicide. So Michigan is on the better half for both charts.

Ya'll are funny!!!!!!
Things are only as bad as you make them. Almost everyone I know (including ourselves) have been growing and prospering. Sure some of us had to make some adjustments but it's always been for the better.
We happen to love the winter weather and are so glad to have a couple plus feet of snow on the ground right now. Hopefully it'll stick around 'til May when we start heading into our awesome mild, low humidity summer!
Oh wait........ I'm up here in Gods country and must of ya'll are down there in troll land. Nevermind........ carry on with your complaining! It's only your natural human tendency considering where you're at!

Exactly, from Princess's comment about Michigan being voted "one of the most depressing" states I would have thought it would have at least made the top 10!

We were at $3.27 just 2 weeks ago. Check out Historical gas price charts - Oklahoma City Gas Prices. It has other locations in the country you can compare to. I just checked Lansing, MI with Los Angeles, CA for the past 6 mo's. Michigan passed California numerous times in this period. I'll assure you that salaries are considerably higher in CA though. I wouldn't want your housing prices but when the pay is so much higher -- you can always cash out and move some place else like MI and live off the profits/savings.

As Magellan said we all don't think constant sun is a so wonderful. I was never a fan of it and after several years of constant Cali sun I have developed an allergy to it and really have to limit my exposure.
I can't wait to get back to Michigan!

People that I knew in Ca. have sold their property, receiving no less than $100.000, moved to Ok. and bought better property for $25-30.000 and after paying everything including taxes had more that half of what they recieved from their property in Ca. left over.

The salaries in Ca. may be high but the living expenses make up for it.

One of the biggest reasons I moved from Michigan,,,,way to much winter. I can reach a happy medium with a few months of the cold wet stuff. Usually, the weather is cold and gloomy from November through the first week in May. Snow starts up in November.
I lived on the east side of Michigan and it doesn't reach the 70's bracket until the last week in May, first week of June!. The further north you go, the longer the winter and the more snow. I love the four seasons, so Tennessee is perfect for me....smile.....
If you're a big outdoors person and hate to be cold the majority of the year, don't move to Michigan!
