I'll second that and don't let your vocabulary hit you in the.....
Many remarkable things have happened to me during Michigan winters. Some of the most romantic moments of my life have been while knee deep in snow or on skis or while taking a break from snowmobiling.
The happiest Michigan residents are those that have their summer routine and their winter rituals. This flexibility is something that each generation increasingly lacks and the satisfaction of being truly challenged by weather conditions builds character, IMO.
So Jim, enjoy Atlanta!

It's cold, but it's not unusual for snow and cold in the winter, the big thing is dressing for the part.

Gripe about the cold, then wait until winter is OVER before you pull stakes and leave? I guess that makes sense... Nope, can't make that make sense no matter how hard I try.
I fail to see the "why" behind these threads. So somebody is PO'ed with the state and are moving away. Why complain to complete strangers who really don't give a fig one way or the other if you go or stay. It isn't like personal reasons, like not liking the cold, are going to change somebodies mind who may be reading the boards and thinking of moving to Michigan. If anybody is serious about moving ANYPLACE they are going to do some homework and take anything posted by a faceless, nameless, person online with a huge grain of salt, both positive AND negative.

Good point and I suspect the point of this thread has more to do with the OP's age.
Michigan, as well as all of the midwest is COLD and I've never understood why people would complain about the weather that has been the same for centuries.
People who complain about the weather are the same wet rags who complain about everything. I say we put them all in a bio-dome and caulk it shut.

I have an air powered caulking gun, I'll bring the portable compressor and caulk gun, you bring the tubes of caulk. A grill and brats and we can make it a caulking party .

We got a few inches of snow out here in metro DC yesterday. Aside from the fact that people don't know how to drive out here in the snow, it was beautiful to see the flakes coming down and laying a white, fluffy blanket on the buildings and trees.
I think it's one of those things you come to appreciate when you don't have it anymore. The grass is always greener on the other side, familiarity breeds contempt, however you wanna put it.
I grew up in Michigan, so even though I was used to the cold, snowy winters, they did get old after a while. So I can appreciate someone's frustration with it. But when you generally don't get ANY cold and snow, you do get a little nostalgic for it. No, I wouldn't want it every day ... but it's really not all that bad!

I moved from the frozen waste land last year, dont miss it a bit. it is 65 in the middle of dec. love it. I can let my shovel rust in peace.
The taxes are much cheaper here, and it is much cheaper to cool your home than to heat it, you can stay in mi and make the oil companys rich,
All you can do in the winter is to hole up and wait till spring and then fix all the muck the freez thaw makes.
The heat pumps work fine here, they do not in MI. when the temp goes down below 20deg. the heat strips kick on and you need to stand next to your meter with an oil can.
I guess even the some stalag inmates would say things are not that bad if they had no way out.
JP see you down here and keep the stars and bars flying.
