Hi Folks,

I grew up in Michigan and graduated / moved away to college on the west coast right at the start of the recession. I have a degree in computer science. I've found work out west but want to move back to Michigan sometime. What cities have the largest amount of computer science / software development jobs? It seems strange because when just browsing Craigslist, I don't see many results for the Detroit Metro area - I do see more results for Ann Arbor and Grand Rapids. Is this expected?

I did a search on Monster and found quite a few in the Metro Detroit area.
Though Ann Arbor, Kalamazoo/Portage, and Grand Rapids offer a lot of opportunities, the vast majority of the 157 jobs that I found was in the Detroit area.

Out here Craigslist is incredibly popular (I had never heard of it until I reached the west coast). Is this true in Michigan or do people more commonly use other tools like Monster?

I have always used Monster and Mlive (local papers) and to some extent, Careerbuilder.com.

Craigslist is common for buying things, but I have never really thought of it for job listings. I should check it out sometime.

Job postings on Craiglist here in Metro Detroit seems to be more common if you're looking for lower wage and lower skill jobs. I'd say LinkedIn, Monster, Careerbuilder, etc. are more commonly used for skill-required jobs.
