I will be relocating to the Romulus, MI area the first of the year and am looking for help in my search for a good area to move my family into. Hoping to stay within 30 miles or so and probably in the $250K or less price zone. I have done some searching but hard to wade through what I see. If anyone has any suggestions on good areas with good schools, I would greatly appreciate the advice!!
Thanks for the help!! |

Check out the Canton, Plymouth, or Livonia area. I live in Canton so let me know if you have any questions.

I agree I live in Canton, and the schools are good. If you are in Canton you can hop on I275 to I94 and get to Romulus in no time.

Plymouth! You cannot beat Plymouth if you want to live in a town. You should go see downtown Plymouth before you buy a house anywhere or you may wish that you had. I think that Plymouth has a webcam in the center of town, but it usually does not show much.
If you want rural living it depends on the schools Plymouth/Canton are excellent schools. Livona is a bit bland and the schools are not on the same level as Plymouth/Canton. Northville is another possibility but it is expensive. Salem and Lyon Township are great options for rural living with good schools (South Lyon school district). Parts of Ann arbor township may also be within your range. Do not rely on statistics or what people say, visit the schools. Also you might want to rent first and look around. Once you buy something, you are pretty well stuck there for a long time. Nothing is selling. Houses sit on the market for years. If you want to push your 30 miles a little bit consider Grosse Ile. It is a bit hard to get to and from, but it is an awesome community with great schools, virtually no crime and it is an island. Incredible real estate bargains right now. I can just make it to DTW in 30 minutes unless there is snow or a train. |

I like Plymouth as well. It is just down the street.
Here is my take on some nice areas and what you can expect. 1. Canton: This is a bedroom community. Nice homes, good schools. Really little else. Restaurants are all chains and even those are not great. 2. Plymouth: Small town feel, but the population is dense. Nice restaurants, shopping. My family considers it a mini Ann Arbor 3. Ann Arbor: U of M Town. There is a lot to do in AA. Downtown is large, very nice, housing in downtown is expensive. If I were to relocate anywhere in the Michigan area near or close to Detroit or Romulus it would be Ann Arbor. You would have to take I94 to Romulus. It is probably around 25 miles and 94 moves really well. Regards, Patrick Last edited by SayYesToMichigan; 12-17-2007 at 06:59 PM. Reason: Removed signature per forum rules |

I used to live in Romulus.....I haven't lived in MI in years; however I do visit from time to time. Was last there back in April. My cousin lives in Canton (Uptown Apartments). It's worth checking out. If you're not looking for an Apt, there were plenty of beautiful home in the area. My cousin loves the schools too. Go check them out you won't be disappointed.
