One fun thing that I remember about Mich,
Who can forget about mushroom hunting?
How many still do it?
My little Brother won the contest once for lagest mushroom.
(news article)
"Some hot spots":
- In tiny Mesick, Mich., self-proclaimed mushroom capital of the world, the population swells in mid-May during the annual mushroom festival, which includes a week-long hunt for the biggest morel.

I don't eat fungus, but Mesick isn't that far away. I always loved the idea that they have a motel called the Mushroom Cap Motel.

Did the mushrooming in the early spring . What I really remember is going to the Singing Bridge north of Omer and going Smelt dipping . A fire on the beach , and sitting there till someone would yell THERE RUNNING . Fun getting them , but cleaning them was a job lol .

my husband used to go mushroom hunting when he lived in MI. My mother in law gave the kids a book on mushroom hunting. We'll have to bring her with us when we move to show us how it's done!

Ah, yeah ... my dad used to go mushroom hunting when I was a kid. Grossed me out back then, when he'd come back with a bowl full of morels and cook 'em up. Now I love my shrooms. Too bad I missed out back in the day.
