For anyone who works for state farm I'll say up front. I'm sorry. Sorry you do. I just wanted to share a recent experience and see if anyone else has ever had anything like this happen. You know that have us by the nads and there is nothing we can do right? Or does someone have some solid advice?

My wife and I purchased a house ( her parents and aunts old house) the deal was for back taxes and cost of repairs. So we were pretty much handed the house.
It needed a lot of work and we maxed out our cards with the intention of getting a loan to consolidate and finish other repairs. We were with State Farm in Indy and transferred to a new agent up here. We HAD to get home owners prior to getting insurance. We were turned down unless we went through another company and paid $850 up front to get the policy going. So I spoke with my agent and struck a deal to repair what was needed in the mean time just to get the policy going. They started my policy ( over the phone) and I made my first payment of $250. A couple weeks passed and I contacted my agent to ask where my policy was and proof so we could move forward on our loan. It was then he sent me an email saying our policy was cancelled. I tried to call him, email him with no reply. 2 weeks later with still no reply I contacted the State Farm complaint line. I spoke with a manager and he agreed that the situation was screwed up and would help resolve it. Never heard a word. Called again started the process over. This time I got a call back. ( in the meantime I filed a complaint and switched agents) this guy was from some board that reviewed my case. They ruled against me and would not apply the money toward my car insurance. I asked them " how can you charge me for a policy I was never given? " he says " you did have coverage in that time so had anything happened you would have been covered" I asked again " but as a customer who was never made aware I HAD insurance and was NEVER given ANYTHING related to showing I had insurance, how can I believe or KNOW I had insurance?"
Long story short, they charged me $250 for a policy I never had any physical evidence of ever having. No number, no email, nothing for me to show a bank I had a policy in place. Had my house burned down I would have never made a claim. Why? Because I was told I didn't have a policy. I filed a complaint with some division in Lansing but never heard squat. IMO they stole $250 from me. I never had anything in had showing what I had for my money. I'm done with State Farm, if I had good neighbors like them I would move. Thats exactly what I did, switched companies. Oh and just so you know why I was cancelled. Our sun room I am going to remove has a small broken window from a rock that shot up from the mower. I was told the company is out of business, the glass would be about $600 and an additional $400 + to install. So they want me to spend $1000 to fix a sunroom I am knocking down anyway before they will insure my house. Good company.

The insurance industry across the board has been back-burnered by lawmakers and consumer advocates and it begs for investigation. There is little competition for a service which should be "cut and dried" and you don't know what you're getting until after you sign up, plus rates always increase no matter what. Quotes you get from agents are almost meaningless because "corporate", not the agent, makes the final decision and the bad news comes on your first bill which increases continually thereafter. Your only option is to switch companies where you will get the same treatment.
Seems like these companies are enjoying their time out of the spotlight and with a captive market.

The insurance companies that r*pe you the least are the ones less advertised. Those companies are also extremely selective on who they insure.

My sister had an issue with SF insuring a home she had - there was a vice growing up a trussel that was independent of the house structure. The vine was growing toward the roof. They refused to insure her until she took the plant out completely.

Insurance companies are the biggest scam artist in the world. If I did some of the sh*t these insurance companies do to people on the regular basis, my ass would be under the jail right now.

what makes me gripe is the MCCA fee. It is mandatory and costs $93 now every 6 months. It seems this is an independently controlled slush fund run by the insurance companies. There appears little accountability to the general public for the expendeture of these funds nor the amount in reserve. In my opinion this should be ended!

I was just thinking, and to add on to my last comment. Insurance companies are the modern day MAFIA.

You should listen to this while reading my post.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HWqKPWO5T4o

Both organizations force their "protection" on you one way or the other. The mob just enforced it more because well, they were actually criminals. And I'm sure some insurance companies would do the same if they could.

Both organizations have the law (in insurance companies case, politicians) in their back pocket. In some cases, buying insurance is now "an offer you can't refuse" punishable by law if you do.

Both organizations use bribery "campaign contributions" to have the law work in their favor.

Both organizations will make you pay them more out of nowhere, and the reason? "because we said so".

Both organizations DARE you to actually use their services. If you do they will do the BARE MINIMUM to help you out. In fact, they often times will fight you tooth and nail. Despite the fact that you have been paying for their "protection" for years without a claim, once you make one, chances are "you will regret it". You will either regret it by paying a hell of alot more for insurance or they will just drop you from their insurance company all together.

"Oh you need some sort of treatment or surgery done? looks like you'll be paying us more from now on or you'll be sleeping with the fishes".

"What was that? Your window shattered out of nowhere and it wasn't even your fault (this happened to my mom), well it looks like you'll be paying us more for that claim of a few hundred dollars from now on, oh and don't even bother going to another auto insurance company because they will charge you more for actually using our services as well. Even though the state of Michigan forces you to use our services thanks to the politicians we paid off a few years back."

"Wow a comet hit your home? we would love to help you out but see the problem is, you have meteoroid insurance, not comet insurance so it looks like your SOL, thanks for paying us for all of those years for nothing though and in the off chance this happens again, you could purchase our 'comet insurance' package."

Granted the can't act just like the mob, but the godfather "CEO" of these insurance companies still make millions a year and even that is probably under-reported. And it's all perfectly legal.

So the next time you have a raised premium for hardly no reason, a denied claim, or any other bs that comes along with dealing with "the family" oops I mean insurance companies, just put this song on and realize what your dealing with. Organized crime.

Edit: funny how there were insurance ads popping up all throughout this video too lol.

My mother who is 90 years old is going through the insurance ordeal. At her age she and my father had paid premiums for decades without ever filing a claim. We had a terrible storm come through the area a few years back which did severe roof damage. We finally had to file a claim, and nothing has been the same since. We had to file a second claim two years later when the plumbing in the bathroom broke flooding the floor. Now we are told we're "excessive filers" or "takers" even though this is coverage that WE PAID FOR. This is the thing that gets me the most. Now we are told if we file another claim we will be dropped. We can't file a claim for five years even though we keep paying for coverage that we can't use. They also raised our rates to punish us for using the insurance. What a racket!

You BETTER NOT use the services we provide for another 5 years but you BETTER keep paying us all throughout those 5 years anyway "for your protection". And it's all perfectly legal. Surprise surprise.

Any candidate for public office promising an investigation of such businesses would have overwhelming public support, but would lose those essential corporate campaign contributions, and would also be demonized by the corporate mainstream media cartel as "socialist". Embrace privatization or lose your career. Do people realize that we have such a system as we speak?
Welcome to "privatized" government-for-sale.

On "no fault" auto insurance: consumers are mandated by law to purchase it, but companies can deny you or charge about anything they want. What a sweet deal.
Since it is "insurance", as in healthcare there could conceivably be a government-run "public option". Since such a thing would provide unwanted competition, expect it to be fought tooth-and-nail by the congressional right wing, but it would have these companies thinking twice about their practices.
