Want to move from NC to Michigan
I grew up in the Mt. Pleasant area and my husband and I want to move back to the area to be near family. You probably think I'm crazy, everyone is moving to NC, and so far we can't find any jobs, even the low pay jobs.
We want to buy a home with acreage,a nice barn and in a farming area. I've found several I like already-in the Mecosta,Barryton,Blanchard and Lakeview area. Anyone have thoughts on this? p.s. I've lived here for 26 years! now. If you want to know about NC, just ask me.

I dont blame you for wanting to be back with your family. The jobs down here arent all its cracked up to be. You wont make 1/2 michigan wages down here. The jobs down here are those "status quoa" kind of jobs. Mainily Nursing, Business, etc. Everyone down here is into nursing big time and there arent a real whole variety of jobs to choose from. I used to be in MI, and I loved central Michigan. I love the wide-open farming territory. Theres something about it that attracts me. You cant find that kind of farming down in NC. The corn gets brown by july.
good luck with your move

I am considering moving from MI to NC - possible Raleigh. I grew up in Grand Rapids and currently live in Metro Detroit. I am starting a new career after 7 years in Accounting. I have to start at the base, so I figured what better time to make a move too. I am 30, single, have a small dog, Christian & well rounded.... do you think NC would be a good place for me? I am tired of the cold winters & the fact that I can't seem to meet a nice guy. I like to go out, but am so over Detroit's casinos and clubs.

Just take in to account that winter is very dismal and fills you with a wishing for summer after the first frost. But once it comes...alas! Nothing beats a Michigan summer. Boundless shoreline, pristine wilderness and plenty of warm, sunny days.

rosesandguns, what a fine contribution to the forums. 3 posts in 2 different states, all posts are useless. Keep up the good work, every forum needs their resident troll and at this rate you should fit into the slot very nicely.

thinking about moving to oscoda mi
My hubby was offered a job in Oscoda and he is thinking about taking the job. we both have loved vacationing in Michigan but usually go to the Copper Harbor area so do not know anything about Oscoda.
I am finding online that jobs are very scarce there so I am quite unsure if the move would be good for us since I am an network administrator and doubt if I would find work.
the offered job is working at the old AFB working on jets. He went to school for this and has had a hard time finding a job since everyone wants experinced people. Anyone out there that works there?
This job is actually offered by STS which I believe is a temp agency. Which is annother reason I have my doubts.
Right now he is driving truck since he can't find a job in the aviation dept.
Any help would be appreciated also any homes known (if we do move) with acerage would be nice.

Move to Oscoda?!!!????
Is this a joke? And I don't mean this to be rude but the INTERNET has a wealth of information so that you can make an informed decision. Get on line and read their newspaper. Learn about the region. Jobs, housing etc.
You might not like the Lake or land over there. Especially compared to Copper Harbor!
Re-read your post.
Move to Oscoda with your family dynamics: No!
The best to you and hubby.

I think your doubts may be valid. Come for a visit before you decide anything if possible. Oscoda is not like Copper Harbor much at all. There is honestly not much of anything in Oscoda and many people from there commute to other nearby cities for work, including some to the Bay City/Saginaw area, which is where I am and where jobs are pretty scarce. As a network admin you might be able to get in at one of the smaller hospitals around Oscoda, but there aren't many companies around there otherwise. If the job is actually through a temp service I would be extremely wary since if it didn't work out there are few other opportunities in that area. Available housing with acreage may be one of the upsides of such a move though, particularly if you're not seeking waterfront. A lot of people buy vacation homes near Oscoda and in the summer that part of the state has quite a few tourists (especially just down the road in Tawas), and due to the depressed economy in MI there may be more people looking to sell their 2nd homes.
Good luck!

Jobs in Michigan itself is bad, look at the websites inform youreself.
Housing galore great prices. Even Waterfronts (here in Mid Michigan) are being sold for MUCH less then they are worth. ( were also looking lol)
We live in Clare county, Jobs are hard to come by but we are country too, Copper harbor and Oscoda not even close. My Hubby works Construction and his drives 50 miles roundtrip. Too Mt.Pleasant.
Come look arround, explore it first. Also as statet above make sure youre not in a temp service,,, not a good place to start out.
And companys are really starting to use them more, being they dont want to employe anyone fulltime...its all about the $$$ ....like everywhere else.
Wish you the best, If you need any other help just ask
