More Signs Of Hope
I read in the paper today that a German automotive firm is setting up a national HQ in scenic Fowlerville, MI. 106 new jobs!!!
And I heard on NPR this morning that there is a plan to turn some of those empty auto manufacturing plants into places making things like wind turbines and other "green" or renewable power sources, to ultimately supply the whole country, while making Michigan's energy use greener and more renewable. That's a much better long-range plan than supplying Bush's Mideastern war machine anyway.
I guess Granholm wants Michigan's energy sources to be 25% renewable in the next 12 years. Which is pretty lame compared to, say, England, where every household is going to be carbon-negative by 2012, but it's a start.

We gotta start somewhere.

England has no chance of achievng their goal. LIke here their politicians need a stong dose of reality. It is great to set such lofty goals in theory. but if they are nto attainable, it is stupid to enact them tno law.

I want there to be world peace in the next twelve years. I want to find a cure for cancer in the next eight years. Can anyone, anywhere please point me to a serious technical, political, and financially responsible plan which would have Michigan 25% renewable in 12 years. I would love to see it and study it. The author of that document would indeed be considered a genius. But please do not praise people for making a statement as unachieveable as my opening wishes.
