Default Edison safe? Kalamazoo

I need some recent inofmraiton on the Edison Neighborhood.

I have been reading it is where the most crime is, but that it is comming down with revitalization. I am asking because we are seriously considering closing on a home on reed street. What kind of crime? I mean is this gang territory where you have shootings etc?

This home would put my husband closest to work, daughter in millwood school which I read is good, and me close enought to hospital, and it has all the ammentities I want in my price range. Any info you can give me I appreciate. Thanks

choosymom is on a distinguished road
Default edison neighborhood

I am originally from the Kalamazoo area. If you can stay away from the Edison neighborhood, I would recommend it. During the day it is alright, but you don't really want to go walking around there at night. There isn't really gang activity as far as I know, but there is a large low economic population there. I know they are trying to revamp the area, but they have been trying for a long time. Downtown isn't huge- there are other areas that will put you within proximity of good schools and work. Enjoy Kalamazoo!

He is transfering from target dc to the one out there. I imagine it should be pretty secure out there as they only opened out there recently. We have decided to find a home in mabey portage or richland, that is a fixer upper as far as updating. I have asked about edison here, and on Craigs and got pretty much the same response, so this is our new plan. Mabey it wont have the nice hard wood floors etc, but eventually I can get them in there.

Hickory Corners- Richland would be a wise choice......property is still going up , or , at least holding its own , around the lake there, for now. A prime lake, Gull is for boating in these parts. Not for faint of wallet ether , around the lake.Good time to buy !
