Ok,i know this is probably the wrong forum to say this in,but what the hell.I just read an article in the Michigan construction news about an incident that occured on a site where a bunk of studs fell through a trailer almost killing a man. What the hell are these half-assed people doing to let this issue happen? Are they in a constant state of denial on safety issue's or just plain stupid?I have come to a bad realization that they have a continued trend of hiring incompetent fool's that endanger other's at a rampant pace, too rampant. The conclusion of this is that safety programs being used in these companies are basically on the border of prehistoric, period. After that article i am seriously concerned with hazards that the tradesmen in Michigan are having to face a bad issue.

Not all companies are like this. Most are concerned with the safety of their workers, but like anyplace, you get your greedy buggers who don't give a rip. I've worked construction in Michigan, Maine, Ohio, and Indiana. All have their idiots who are looking at their personal bottom dollar only and are willing to cut corners by risking their employees. Thank God they are the exception.

$hit happens to the best of crews. I am not saying in this situation it was not maybe something stupid done. but maybe not. I was not there. I have seen from the absolut stupid, a couple of electrictions I worked with smoking pot on lunch hour and getting stoned on a backhoe and taking out half the city power, to things that are just a happning that was over looked.
Misshaps will always happen. I am not saying we do not need to try to keep them to a min. but to get mad at it? I think not. Now to get mad that we have a over sized chimp in the white house I can understand. We have a primmate in the vp and pres seat sending peopole around the world like they were playing risk. He has the vocabulary of Ms teen SC. http://img151.imageshack.us/img151/1...bush006vk3.jpg

What state are you in MIhome? I'll bet a quick search of the OSHA site for ANY state will show violations, injuries and sometimes a death or two due to unsafe work sites. There is no one State that has the lock on safety or unsafe work environments. Just as there is no one State that someone can point a finger at and call behind the times due to a couple of accidents in the papers. There is a reason it makes headlines when a worker is hurt or killed, that is because it happens so infrequently it IS news. Every single State has contractors who will cut corners to save a buck at the risk of their employees. If I remember right you are in Las Vegas. A quick check brought this up, from the Southeast safty services website dated Aug 11, 2007
Quote:
Las Vegas, NV. Yesterday and for the second time in a week a construction worker was killed on a jobsite. The worker was killed just after 6 PM while working on an elevator shaft at MGM-Mirage’s City Center Mega-Resort being constructed next to Bellagio on the Vegas strip.

A Clark County fire department official stated the worker “probably never saw it coming”. The Perini Construction Company worker, who’s name is being with held pending family notification, was crushed to death by elevator counter weights while working on the elevators shaft, greasing equipment. The event was witness by co-workers at the sight.

Construction came to a stop on the main hotel and casino portion of the City Center Mega project after this fatal accident.

Earlier in the week 3 iron workers were rushed to the hospital after falling more than 30 feet at the Foutainbleau project near the Riviera. One of the workers who was listed in critical condition after the safety harness he was wearing failed, has since died. In an unrelated incident Monday the Fountainbeau experienced the collapse of a 3 story parking garage in which there were reported no injuries.

The construction site was closed down pending an OSHA investigation.

Since Earlier this year construction sites on the Las Vegas strip have been plagued by accidents, near misses, and fatalities. Safety protocols are now under tight scrutiny by OSHA and state officials.
Doesn't sound like it is much better than any other State.

A quick check on the McGraw-Hill Construction website shows 5 work site deaths by one construction company this year alone on the Vegas strip. Before anything is mentioned about fly-by-night companies, this is a company that received the three top construction awards at the 2007 Casino Design Awards ceremony recently held at the Global Gaming Expo Institute. Sounds like Vegas is cutting more safety corners than the rest of the country if their TOP contractor has had 5 DEATHS this year alone.

Overall for one city there has been an astronomical number of deaths. According to the McGraw-Hill Engineering News-Record website there has been 13 deaths this year so far just on the Vegas strip/high-rise building projects. I cannot think of/or find another single city with a worse safety record.

Description
The Las Vegas Strip's bad luck streak continued this morning when four construction workers fell 30-ft from a retaining wall at the $2.9–billion Fontainebleau Resort Hotel site. All are listed in stable condition. Two workers suffered knee injuries, one had a facial cut, and the other experienced an injured rib. But all four complained of back pain. The city's high-rise building boom has seen a rash of recent worker-related accidents this year with over 13 fatalities to date.

yep, that would be perini and turnberry, the GC's on those projects. The GC i work for have no fatalities, for a reason.I have a lot of good friends working on both projects and it is the same story, they never see their people enforcing the workers safety,as for the osha website,it's under DOL.gov,2007 stats don't come out til 08,but 06 stats are out,and be careful what you read, you may not like it.155v.49 in 06,as too a bigger population in Michigan,i would buy that argument if it had the work to equal the equation, but it does not,so it is a travisty in the making, like i said,i have a little experience.
