Okay, it is a click bait headline but not that big of a stretch given the number of K-12 school districts that the State has shut down lately. So here is my list of large public universities from most likely to close to least likely. The opinions expressed are the author's - your experiences may differ.

1 Northern Michigan - the UP does not need three universities, sorry NMU

2 Saginaw Valley State - a glorified community college for the tri-cities

3 Eastern Michigan - has gotten a lot of bad press lately, consolidate with Washtenaw CC

4 Central Michigan - the very definition of average, too close to MSU

5 Western Michigan - see comments above about CMU

6 Oakland University - consolidate with Oakland CC and Wayne State

7 Lake Superior State - the other UP school has to go now

8 Ferris State - too small and isolated

9 Grand Valley State - too small and isolated

10 Wayne State - merge with Wayne and Oakland CC

11 Michigan Tech - good engineering but too small and isolated

12 Michigan State - even the big guys can fail

13 Michigan - the last to go

many college ranking links out there, here is one

Central Michigan University (CMU) vs Eastern Michigan University (EMU) vs Ferris...

I don't see any of these closing. Grand Valley State University too small and isolated? It has 25,000 students now, bigger than Western.

Strangest thread ever.

What K-12 School districts have shut down? This thread has no merit, it's ridiculous.

Beyond ridiculous. One K12 district (Inkster) was shut down by the state for being insolvent. It has absolutely nothing to do with higher ed.

I feel like the state has enough of an image problem without people starting "click bait threads" of monumental ignorant proportions. Help yourself to an economics class please.

This is misleading at the very least, can it be shut down?

How the heck is grand valley isolated? It's near Grand Rapids, you know, the city with the 2nd largest metro area in Michigan

Buena Vista closed, too. (In addition to Inkster)

This thread sounds like it was just trying to start a few arguments.

Think of it like a contingency plan "a plan devised for an outcome other than the usual/expected plan"
The military is closing bases, school districts are closing elementary, middle and high schools.
Consider the following factors

High tuition increases every year
Decreased support form the State every year
Greater competition form community colleges
Student debt loads increase every year
A shrinking middle class with a lower income level than 20 years ago

These factors can not continue year after year after year without something breaking eventually

GVSU is way down at 9th on the list and compared to UM, MSU and WSU it is smaller and more isolated.
Inkster and Saginaw Buena Vista closed last year and Ypsi and Willow Run merged

There's more demand for higher education today than ever before. If you actually went to one of these colleges and took an introductory economics course, you would know how things like this work. Of course, given your bizarre logic, I don't think the college classroom would be a suitable environment for you.
