Opposed to most of Michigan, Colorado is like all the other Rocky Mountain places, people live mostly on the plains, valleys, and a few big cities. Very good reason for this. History has told us people went where the work was, where the wagons could travel old Indian trails, and where farmers could grow crops instead of rocks. The pioneers followed the rivers when ever they could, but in the high Rockies, not so easy. If it weren't for mining, the slopes and the peaks would still show little signs of disturbance by man. There is a reason also why there are so many ghost towns hanging on the rock slides and faces of America's highest peaks, the Rockies.
Today some exceptions like Aspen, but even there, you look up at the snow caped crags, where no one lives...or goes. A few years ago I spend 10 days above 10,000 ft., traveling all the high roads in Colorado, quite secnic, but we all had shortness of breath, our cars caught fire from vapor lock, and we all had wild dreams at nite.... Nice place to visit, but naw I wouldn't want to live there. Give me the hills in the Western U.P. anyday, for a place to settle in...for the long haul.

If you consider a couple of serious nutcases putting nazi flyers on car windshields, then yes it's an infestation.

Otherwise, no more kooks per capita than other areas. And far fewer than any big city, bar none.

You can actually get INTO the mountains in ID. Great place to retire, up north, not in the South plains/desert. The Saw tooths are one of natures best. I could live in Sun Vally, or Courdelene area.

Michigan is awesome. We want more jobs, but that would mean a hell of a lot more people...which we dont want.

Not quite Scott, considering all that left when there we no jobs., right ? Diversification is the right word, job wise and people wise. There is right now a big shortage in skilled trades all over Michigan. CNC machine operators and truck drivers can name the location in Michigan.
The other place where jobs have always been scarce is of coarse the UP. However that's also changing. Interesting clip on the local news last night, where specialty tubing is being trucked in to Sawyer International, from all over ,including Milwaukee. Sawyer is one of the few airfields where you can land large cargo aircraft. The cargo jet yesterday was Russian, and it was huge !!.... So, sometimes we have opportunities in the least expected places, that's what will keep Michigan from depending so much on one company or industry. We can use a few more folks here in Marquette , about 10,000, then we will shut the border crossing.

Ok...a few more, but thats it. And we want people who WANT to live here, not are just here because its where the jobs are. I want people who love this state as much as I do, and who will do anything for it.

I understand what you mean. I want more people here but not more people to create more sprawl and ruin our natural scenery.
