Default Buying a home in Royal Oak/Berkley/North Oak Park/Ferndale

I'm currently looking in the Royal Oak/Berkley/North Oak Park/Ferndale area at houses. The home prices in Ferndale are definitely better, but I'm not sure about the area as a whole. Can anyone give me an honest opinion on it and what areas I should stay away from? I have heard that Berkley is great.

Thanks!

if i had to live anywhere in SE MI, it would be ferndale or berkley. i dont hear good things about oak park though... but maybe someone can interject here?

ferndale is a bit more trendy/eccentric/artsy while berkely is a bit more family/residential, but near royal oak which is more trendy & artsy. i would say berkley is safer, but IMO ferndale is safe and i would feel OK raising a kid there.

i love ferndale. it is my fav place in SE MI!!!! IMO it is so much better than royal oak because it is more real. royal oak has all the money but ferndale is more eccentric, diverse, and raw. full of artists and musicians and grat people. love it there.
