Default I don't know anything about the housing in St. Ignace

I'm just curious as to why you chose St. Ignace. Is it the proximity to the bridge? I hope to move to the U.P. one day myself too, and I like the Marquette area for a couple of reasons: 1) It's the largest city up there and offers the most in the way of finding a secure job and 2) It's close enough to all the natural beauty that I think is most prevalent west of Marquette.

St. Ignace is a tourism based community and the majority of the jobs there are in tourism. Quite a few are seasonal. Rent and home ownership gets much cheaper the further you get into the U.P. Get all the way to Ironwood and you can rent a decent house for $350 a month or buy one for $30,000.
