I currently am 24, and live in Traverse City, Michigan. It is very beautiful up here and I love it, but there are not many jobs and the economy sucks up here for someone my age. I'm applying to Oakland Community College, want to become a firefighter. What is a good area for me to relocate to in the Detroit area (Oakland County) that is not too expensive and would be a good area for a young student to live. I have a couple of cousins that live in leonard that I am close to, and have a lot of family in the area. However they live in more rural areas and I'd like to be in an area where there is more to do, somewhere safe and vibrant. But still within easy access to OCC and the oakland area. I've never lived downstate and don't know the area very well. Any input, suggestions?

I've been living in the Taylor area for a few years I like it here. But, it may be a little commute to OCC & You can also look into the Southfield Area really nice there can be a little expensive.

Since OCC's Firefighter training is in Auburn Hills, you will only be maybe 30-45 minutes from your family in Leonard. You should be able to find OK housing right there in Auburn Hills. Plenty of apartment complexes in the area. Be sure to look over the neighborhood first, not all are desirable.
And, Auburn Hills is adjacent to Pontiac, you will find 'night life' in downtown Pontiac geared to a younger crowd. |
